We've been in a hole at our house with a bare 0.10" (corresponds well to the hole on the radar just SE of the Denver city limits) since Wed AM. Hopefully today.

Fort Collins got about 0.35" Wednesday and about 0.10" yesterday (CoCoRAHS plots showed lots of variation in Ft. Collins.) It came down pretty hard for a couple minutes yesterday.

Welp, the wife and I had a trip planned out to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP this weekend but it looks like we'll be heading south into NM instead because of this system.  Something about a couple of inches of rain and camping on top of a cliff that doesn't seem to sit well with us.

We spent a very rainy weekend there last summer during the monsoon season. Early mornings were gorgeous, the rest of the day we went to Ouray and hung out in the hot springs pool. Still worthwhile. I don't know if NM will be any drier this weekend...

On Friday night, we got maybe 0.4" of rain. There was a lightning show in the distance and a constant rumbling. I saw some big C-G lightning bolts, and a lot of distant flashes. I haven't seen such a constant rumbling and flashes for a long time!  Loveland had a stalled storm, and got 2 to 4" of rain Friday night, perhaps with flooded parking lots and creeks. That's where all the lightning was coming from.

8:00PM friday

  • 2 weeks later...

After several days of mainly quiet weather here, we will most likely have a cold front here on Sunday, with areas of CAPE above 1500 J/kg. (The NAM is forecasting over 2000 J/kg on 18z Sunday.) The SREF seems to be indicating effective shear of 40 kt around this area. (This seems a little high, perhaps only 30 kts of shear)

---

SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH IS PROGGED TO DROP OUT OF THE NORTHERN ROCKIES AND
BRUSH ACROSS NORTHERN COLORADO. THE SURFACE TROUGH IS PROGGED TO SHIFT TO THE SOUTH WITH LOW LEVEL MOISTURE INCREASING AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN FROM THE NORTH. THE MAIN FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL
PUSH INTO NERN CO AND THE URBAN CORRIDOR ON LATE SUNDAY MORNING AND AFTN. IT WILL BE COOLER WITH CAPE VALUES INCREASING SIGNIFICANTLY FROM THE URBAN CORRIDOR EASTWARD. PW VALUES IN DENVER CLIMB FM 0.50 INCHES IN THE MORNING TO 0.90 INCHES LATE IN THE DAY. FORECAST CAPES AROUND 2000 J/KG AT 21Z FOR DENVER WITH
GOOD SHEAR AS WELL.
