March 2-3 Storm Disco, Part II

Nothing will ever top 2009-2010 for me with back to back massive storms and 50+ inches of snow on the ground. I think maybe DCA folks are less impressed with that winter since the second Feb storm was a bit of a bust there. It dumped 20+ on me with blizzard conditions.

The Feb. 9-10 storm was hardly a bust in the DC area.  DCA got 10.8" (or there about), I got a foot with incredible white-out blizzard conditions and heavy snow.  Granted, central to northeast MD fared far better.  But it was no bust.

Yeah 02/03 is number 2 for me right now. But If I get another 9+ inches this winter and top 60 inches. This will move to number two for me.

Yeah, anyone saying this winter beats 09-10 has probably forgotten how remarkable and spectacular it was. Nothing we've had this winter has gotten anywhere close to those two back to back blizzards in February, not to mention the area's first true December HECS since records began. No other winter has had 2-3 HECS in one season (and when I say HECS, I mean widespread 18"+ totals). I don't even think most SNE snow weenies have had that (except maybe Boston in 1978, but the young ones weren't alive).

09/10 will always remain number 1 unless something remarkable occurs in the future, however in the thread from last week I ranked this winter at number 3 behind 95/96 and 09/10 but if March delivers it will move into 2nd place for me. This next storm followed by an incredible arctic blast coming to fruition will cement this year and take 95/96 out of 2nd.

That Jan 30-Feb 10 stretch will probably never be beat. Add in the other HECS and the winter is on its own no question there. If we're just talking snow there's no real comparison locally at least.. tho maybe closer once you get N/W when all is said and done.

That surprise 8" on the day of the polar bear plunge only a few days before the first big Feb. event was the best of that run of snow days. A little clipper, with no moisture...producing 8" because the air was so cooooold.

I grew up in northeast Ohio during the '70s and '80s, and saw my share of brutal winters and heavy snows...including heavy lake effect events.  That 12-day stretch here in Jan-Feb 2010 was more snow than I've ever seen in such a concentrated amount of time; I got 46" or so of snow in that time frame.

Oh snoverkill, we got a foot. Geez who was complaining?

Sent from my iPhone

People near the MD/PA border seem to think we expect snow to match their totals or something. Do you go to the same school as Big Hoss G?

It's about as much snow as you can get anywhere in such a short period of time outside the LES belts or the high mtns.  I've only seen more in the Sierra.. nothing in CT quite matched that stretch while I was there at least.

To me, Feb 10 2010 was no bust:

The Feb 9-10 was a bust out here.  I got 3" in Front Royal at the time.  Winterwxluvr probably did better than that, but that may be why the reverence for 09-10 out here is not quite the same as it is with you guys ENE.

I give 09-10 a huge edge over this year because I've been fringed a number of times this season, but Winchester north is pushing 50" (about 15" more than me just 6 miles south), and the cold has been longer lasting and more impressive this year than in 2010.

If I get 8 inches from this storm... this will be the 4th 8+ inch storm that I have received this year
