Snowing steadily on 66 East through Fairfax. Snow accumulating in between the lanes. Just past 3 salting trucks.

Thanks for reverse_psychologying this "storm" to fruition, Jeb. That was some true overnight dedication.

Roger that. Green banding is ramping up, should be a fun rush hour

It's not sticking on roads in DC. Maybe not a true bust, but still kinda dissapointing.

Just woke up - it's coming down hard and the major roads I can see in silver spring (inside the beltway) are almost completely covered in white.

Kind of wondering what the commute is going to be like today if this stuff is sticking already and nothing is delayed or closed... hopefully traffic's not too horrible.

lol  Fed gov't has unscheduled leave

I don't think this is a bad decision.    Right in DC, the roads are good, but it looks like there are a lot of problems outside the Beltway (especially on the west side of town), according to the WTOP.com traffic map.    The intent of unscheduled leave/telework is to reduce the number of cars on the road across the entire metro area on days with potentially dangerous road conditions, and I think this fits the bill.

But they also have telework, which I'm doing.  Sure beats jumping into the car at 5am and driving 35 miles to DC in the dark, not knowing what to expect (it only takes one accident to "kill" a good commute) or dealing with possibility of some idiot driver sliding into me.  In retrospect in terms of just the road conditions, I probably could've (and should've) driven in to DC.

Side roads are terrible in Rockville. Just drove kids to school and nothing is treated. Very slick. Looks great and I love driving in snow so it was fun. MCPS doesn't care about kids. Mattie should consider moving here.

Same situation here, i am shocked my kids schools are on time. The side roads are horrible and very slippery. I think Mattie is the decision maker for the schools here.

Now I know why The Hill Of Doom received special attention before 6 am.

An Arlington County schoolbus just came down the street.

Tangible benefits of paying property taxes!

(and a bus route change)

But the untreated surfaces, including the non-middle parts of the street, are ALL covered by the small-flake snow.

I made a dash for the newspaper at 6 am, and my mobile weather station (aka car) said it was 32 degrees then.
