There is quite a temp spread across Iowa.  Currently it is 28 with light snow in Estherville(nw) and 70 in Shenandoah(sw).

A week of 40s and 50s has melted nearly all of our snow.  I remember thinking it would take a long time to melt our huge piles, but they vanished quickly.

Ah yes!  Nice to see all that snow gone!  Didn't think our snowpack would disappear THIS soon...

After the sun today, tons of grass showing today, even in residential areas. I notice there really is no rhyme or reason to the remaining snow. I have seen some peoples yards that are entirely covered and some that are entirely bare. It hasnt looked this bare since Dec 30th (of course the brown, matted down grass and large snowbanks are much more extreme now than late Dec). I have seen sections of grass with standing pools of water as well. I am calling depth 2" but thats just a rough rough average. I could easily see someone in this area go with a T depth or 4" depth based on the condition of their yard, I try and do a general average. I would say by Tue or Wed we will go down to a T.

The grasses brown, matted down appearance is very noticeable from a winters worth of heavy snowpack

Yeah most of my lawn looks like your pictures Josh. Will take some breezy and mild days to "fluff" it up again.

Pretty cloudy now. I have yet to see a snowfall report east of the Mississippi yet today.

Pretty much, or at the very least have a bit of a filter if you are drunk.

Having a filter while drunk is a challenge not many of us are up to, I would think.....  I know I don't have one... Therefore,  that's why I don't drink and post....

Likewise, hell I have better things to do when I am drinking than being on a weather forum :lmao:

I think Iowa is a good place to live if you like winter, but also like a little breather from it too...  We have good friends that went to school in Des Moines and loved it there (currently they live in N Dakota...not so much!).  Pretty big difference in climate between me and Des Moines...

Cold day here.   Right around freezing, but the wind made it feel worse.  Enough melt to get the streets running, but not like the past few days.

Why is bowme banned?

I saw a bunch of drunk posting last night from him and then it getting deleting and him posting even more getting pissed about it. Then he sent a few people some unsavory messages after the fact. I'm sure there was probably more on top of all of that.

In this forum or did he venture into one of the i-95 sub forums? Regardless that sucks.. Hopefully he comes back.

Only got a half inch here last night.  We ended up in between better snow bands.  A few pockets of very heavy snow moved across far southeast Iowa overnight and dropped 4-5 inches.  I lost count of the number of times that area got 4-5+ inches this winter.  Meanwhile, I went the entire winter without getting a 5" storm.  I only got a couple 4" storms.

Ha, yeah same here.  Heaviest was the 4.5" event on March 1st.  Did have 5 4" storms here though.

Picked up 1.3" here last night/early this morning, which was more than I expected.  Ground all white again.

Today's windy cold weather sucks, but it'll get better as the week goes on. Few LES flurries, but no synoptic snow last night.

Wind is turning more easterly, which is allowing for more sun now.

Between now and April 1st, there is a gain of 47 minutes of daylight.

Snow cover as of 17z, modeled at least.

-7 this morning, up to 5 now.

some pics from around Ellsworth today.

Looking west towards northern Green Bay

down the hill is Ellsworth, and my house is just over the hill of pines in the mid distance. the valley creates colder temps and late frost as compared to areas nearby.

This ice was caused by melting snow as the rain changed over the other night.
