A lot of running water this afternoon. Snow cover down to about 25% now. 2 more days of this weather and I'll be down to piles.

This was pretty funny on the way home tonight...

You know it's been a long winter when you see a guy shoveling snow off his yard and onto the sun warmed concrete of his driveway in order to get it to melt faster!

:lmao:

The amount of melting that occurred from about 11am to 5pm was pretty impressive. So were the winds. Had a few gusts that nearly blew me out of my lane when I was headed home.

Same here. I lost 5" today, the most I can ever remember losing in 6 hrs. I will be recording a big T on my CoCoRaHS snow depth report in the morning.

MAJOR snow loss today. MAJOR. The biggest single-day hit of the season. Howling south winds with gusts to 45mph, off and on sunshine, and temps soaring to 51F will do that. I am calling depth 4" now after it was 10" at 8am this morning. Plenty of bare patches showing up in most places now, especially in south facing, sun prone spots (but where the snow is its deeper than 4" in most spots, including still some deep icy drifts). Backyards are certainly still more than half covered to avoid the old T depth, but most now have bare spots. The busy roads are back to their all brown grass with a few drifts and plenty of big snow piles look, complete with puddles and mini lakes everywhere.

March sun can melt snow at 20F or at least soften it up.

Same here. Our snowpack took a big hit today.

Snow in the front of the house is all but gone. Parkway and front yard are almost clear.  Backyard still has about 4" in the shadow of the house. The big park down the street has a about 4" or so as well, but it is melting and turning into huge puddles.  If memory serves, I remember lurching into spring like this back in 1979.  Even after the snow was gone, the ground was spongy and soft for weeks, baseball fields, the park, and even my backyard were unusable, because they were so sodden.

its march... melt happens.  Geos is mowing his mold tomorrow.

So far I don't see any mold. I am happy to see the sod I put down in October looks fine and healthy.

Bo that's an awful lot of snow you have!

Not seeing a real big chance for more than a DAB tonight here.

Its clear that the Detroit area lost more snow than any other area of S MI yesterday, and a quick check of obs shows why. Its not even so much the fact that temps were slightly warmer, it was the winds were the strongest here. This is the time of year when any one of a number of factors can murder snowpack. Its why even the largest spring snowstorms usually only last several days on the ground. Spring is emerging after a very severe winter.

Expect more melting today as the stratus/stratocumulus mixes out.

(granted, it won't be nearly as bad as yesterday)

Its crazy how many bare spots have now appeared...it looks weird seeing grass lol.

I am still a long way from seeing grass except under my pine trees.  Most of my yard it 12-18"  we were just tramping around in the yard today!!

I have really noticed this winter how the paved road areas melt more than the dirt road areas.

Why is bowme banned?

I saw a bunch of drunk posting last night from him and then it getting deleting and him posting even more getting pissed about it. Then he sent a few people some unsavory messages after the fact. I'm sure there was probably more on top of all of that.
