NEchestercountydude
Great 12z runs today. I think the models are picking up on the strength of the PV. Some of the thermal gradients showing up on the models are Sick.

Well, the 00z EURO had the PV too far west, it shifted East which allowed to HP to be in better position
baseball0618
Monday thanks b/c I was trolling the Mid-Atl forum and they are talking a zr mess so I wasn't sure. great to hear!

A 30 degree Celsius difference on 850 temps from northern New England to North Carolina. So much energy available.

Looking at the E-Wall maps it looks like a very tight gradient, and the 850 line slices through SNJ.

famartin
IF this happens, you'd have to stamp this winter has one of the greats of all time, if it isn't there already You are all idiots if you think this winter isn't already in that league. famartin
Actually its around a foot for the city, and stormvista is usually conservative... Actually there's a warm layer, its more like a sleet fest in the city, if not freezing rain.
Heisy
Actually there's a warm layer, its more like a sleet fest in the city, if not freezing rain. Was just going off the stormvista snowfall maps. You're right though.
Birds~69
You are all idiots if you think this winter isn't already in that league. I don't even have to think about it. Constant snow/cold/fzn rain/sleet/thunder/lightning/wind etc....you name it, we had it. Again, reminds me of the late 70's...
Harbourton
Actually there's a warm layer, its more like a sleet fest in the city, if not freezing rain. Actually there was more rain on the previous run, no? Seems to be trending colder.
famartin
Actually there was more rain on the previous run, no? Seems to be trending colder. It is colder, yes. Not sure I would call 1 run a trend. I would wait for two at minimum before calling anything a "trend". Otherwise its just noise.

MattMal88
You are all idiots if you think this winter isn't already in that league. This is the best winter I've ever lived through IMO. Granted im only 25 so I was a little young to really appreciate or remember 94 or 96 and 2010 had more snow but not the cold and number of events that this year has had. I agree with highzenberg though if we get a foot of snow with this event then winter 2014 will be the undisputed champ in my book. Hopefully only until 2015
DarthDoppler
I'm between the NW burbs and the Lehigh Valley and even here I'd say if this storm (or another) pans out with 8"+ this is the best winter I've seen. (I'm 42 years old) 93-94 was much snowier up this way compared to Philly also so that really means a lot to call this winter #1. I don't care about specific numbers, I look at the big picture. (even if we ended up 1" less than 94......this winter has been so LONG and that's the tie breaker to me.....96 was very long also but that 60F 3" of rain lakes cutter + a couple of lesser ones just killed the joy for me.) RedSky
0z GFS is PD2 light, 48hr+ of snow
Ralph Wiggum
0Z GFS has trended much colder now for the region. We stay mostly frozen...NW burbs are mainly all snow verbatim off of maps (havent seen soundings from 0Z yet). Long duration event begins Sunday morning and ends Tuesday night this run. famartin
Average snowfall rate would be something like a quarter inch per hour.
