OceanStWx
I guess physics only works in some towns. Well we knew that already with some lower elevation towns being colder than ORH on a well-mixed boundary layer type day. Channeling Ekster on that one. ORH_wxman
wonder how far into April you go? If the first half of March can be prolific for snow, then we might be able to get into the first week or so of April with a lot of cover in the interior hills...but you still need to avoid a big warmup. I remember how fast 2005 melted at the end of March and first couple days of April with a torch...over 20 inches of high water content pack went fairly quickly. SouthCoastMA
I guess physics only works in some towns. How dare you suggest that snow may melt, even if only a little bit!The cold this week/weekend will act to refreeze the mud in my backyard..so that's a plus. HoarfrostHubb
I guess physics only works in some towns. My driveway is still pretty much ice covered (and snow now)I am sure some melted but less than I can determine visually
OceanStWx
That's not my point. It's the reason they throw sand on the roads in the dead of winter. Salt lowers the freezing point allowing snow to melt at cooler temps. But sand allows more solar radiation to be absorbed, thus creating a shallow layer of warm enough temp to melt snow/ice. High sun angle and black top/dirty snow provide the same general idea.

Ginx snewx
Wow just saw a pic from the Berks of a wind driven squall, looks pretty fierce out there in the hills. This airmass coming in ain't no joke. Looks like any fart will set off squalls later this week.

CoastalWx
My driveway is still pretty much ice covered (and snow now) I am sure some melted but less than I can determine visually Well forested areas and what not are different. It's more of a reference to areas exposed to sun for a number of hours. Clearly a temp of 20F in this sun is different then a temp of 30F..but the solar insolation is strong despite temps. That's why we preach on having a high water content snow pack. It takes exponentially more energy to melt.

Not much dirty snow in my hood, mostly on the roadside, nice white look

I also wanted to show the whitening of the driveway Was there some melting today? I am sure. This is not the deepest pack at all. I was actually surprised that the max I got to this winter was only 20-26" or so

TalcottWx
"Big cold is my call this winter. Snow should come too. Epic is my call...one for the ages. NNE will do extraordinarily well. Not sure I buy the warm south of NYC. I think the AO/NAO spends some negative time in the heart of winter. But as long as the EPO holds we're getting frequent 3-6/4-8 type events but probably few if any blockbusters."
