The end?

People seem so obsessed over the snow is anyone but me sick of it (the snow that is)? What about the second week of March? People seem to only want snow. Does anyone want to talk about how all this will end? Spring? As we all know this has to end at some point. I cant see this keeping up much past march 20th

At this point we might as well go big and go for the all-time records. Not too often we get this close.   I'm all in for another major snowstorm.  But trust me, once this pattern breaks, I'll be all in for warmth and lawn and gardening once again!  The fertilizer went down on my lawn in early March last year if I can recall.  This year I'm hoping for early April at this point! ha ha ha

I'm not so sure it's right around the corner even well into March and April. We seem to be locked in a general below normal pattern with occasional breaks with the constant EPO reloads, the PNA spikes, and the PV dropping south. The highs next weeks could only be in the low to mid 20s, when the average high is like 45.

If you fast forward this pattern into March and April, then we could see deep freezes well into April and even more snow threats. I think I heard someone say this was due to a brief change in the AMO from positive to negative, but I'm not sure.

Last week the models showed a prolonged torch through the end of February and heading into March but it turned out to be very similar to when models frequently showed cold and snow returning in the long range during our warm winters which never happened or happened very briefly. The next few weeks are probably going to be a roller coaster but it'll favor below normal with a high likelihood of more snow.

So I'm all in until we see a true pattern change, let's break some records.

Most of us aren't here for a daily weather forecast. Most of us here are weather hobbyist who love to see extreme weather. I'd say 80% of us love snow...We'll have 8 months of warm weather, spring will come, but until March is over most of us want to see another MECS.

At this point the city needs ~6" to reach #2, it would be a shame to have gotten so close and not make it.  I lost track of what my total is but I think less than 20" puts me in the top three and maybe top 2, again after all those hours with a snow shovel in my hands it would be a shame not to get there.  Having said that, yeah I could do with it fading away.  I want to go for a bike ride wearing shorts  B)

I do want a big storm but I have to keep quiet about it as most are sick of the snow and would not be happy to hear someone say they want more snow.

There are few things worse than the sound of folks whining about the cold and snow when they willingly live in a cold climate. It's February at ~40N; I don't understand why people are surprised that it's winter.

That is to say, there's nothing wrong with enjoying what you have. Even if you're not a wx weenie who thrives on winters like this, learn to live with them. Otherwise... Florida is four tanks of gas away.

It's also a bad sign we likely have a developing El Niño for next winter and perhaps a moderate one, late spring snow storms have long been associated with transitions into El Ninos such as April 82 and April 97

Ooh 4/1/97 was a doozy.  Just shy of 60* during the day and all of a sudden around 9pm the temp plummeted and it started snowing.  I had 17" on the ground by 1am!  Trees were fully leafed out and branches started coming down all over the place.  Never forget that one.

No matter what the weather pattern does nothing can change the fact that Mr. :sun: is making his presence known ;)  Late winter storms are kind of cool when you think about it.  It snows.....but often it's mainly on the grass.  The pavement is easy to clear, and roof tops shed the snow easier too.  (with the heat coming from both below and above.....)  As long as this thaw rids my awning of it's icy hat I'll be happy lol.  (I don't want any more snow until that happens or it could collapse......and the way it is I can't really get it off) I don't really care one way or the other if winter is "over", I just want this thaw to melt that few inches of ice off of my awning.  (which WILL get reinforced for next year)  I think issue's like this have many people wanting a break.  Perhaps their driveway is getting too small, back too sore, ect.  I think most disgruntled snow weenies will come around again if given a bit of a break.  (such as back recovering, snow on driveway giving  a few inches more room back, roofs shedding snow, ect.)

I agree to an extent, but to be fair this winter has seen more than double the average snowfall, it has been much colder than normal, and the snow pack has rarely been this significant for this long. Our winter has been more like central/northern New England, but we're pretty lucky considering how frigid it's been in the midwest and plains. We struggle to go below zero while those out west are setting records with below zero temp days like nothing.

What would really make this winter an absolute gem and put it over the top of years like 1995-1996 and 2010-2011 would be a major snowstorm in the beginning of March, a snowstorm that dumps more than any other storm we've had so far this winter.

Hmmm, I seem to remember some weak nino years being pretty good....Mod. and greater not so much, but I could be mistaken

Moderate is okay depending on where the warmer SST anomalies are located as well as PDO phase...97-98 and 09-10 were not terribly different on the intensity but the location of the above normal SSTs was different as well as there being way more blocking in the Atlantic.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you

I thought I was the only one, I'm sick of this.

This winter is anything but normal. I doubt anyone (except the cold wx addicts) would be complaining if we were having normal late-Feb weather.

And not all climates at 40N are cold/snowy in the winter, it's just eastern North America and Asia that get the short end of the stick.

An el nino can help us alot in the snow department but like all great patterns we're going to need support to have it deliver. With no cooperating atlantic/ pacific its nill so.....

I will talk spring and warmth anytime. I like all weather not just snow. I am going really be pushing and posting heatwave threads this summer

Agree. I Love snow, but I can't wait for some warmth and (though it never happens) a good severe storm. Certainly would take a blizzard in a heart beat though...

We're due for a crappy spring in these parts...last 3-4 years have featured either warm and dry or cool/dry with limited fog/drizzle/backdoor crap.
