The 3 lowest maximum temperatures for 3/24 are: 1. 24°, 1896 2. 28°, 1940 3. 32°, 1934 and 1971 (Dutchess County Airport record for the date)

bluewave
today was the 90th day with a minimum of 32 or lower in Central Park...The most since 1976-77... Very impressive that we have to go back to 1960 to find more 32 or lower minimums in March. We should bring the total this month up to 19 by Thursday before we get milder. bluewave
Looks like another record low possible for JFK tomorrow with the forecast lows in the low 20's. NYC could get to just a few degrees higher than record set in the late 1800's. The models also have record low potential for Newark. JFK 3/27 24 in 2001 24 in 1975 26 in 1982+ NYC 3/27 20 in 1894 21 in 1873 22 in 1915+ EWR 3/27 23 in 2001 23 in 1975 24 in 1982+
Mikehobbyst
Are we really done with true Arctic air after today for the most part ?? More polar based air masses and a few Pacific based ones going forward. Will we stop struggling at 35 and break 40 more easy very soon based on what you folks see ? This point of the year its only of when not if we dump the cold for good. April with a tanking NAO will sadly most likely mean rain and cool conditions with sunny/warmer days mixed in. We may have to wait till may to start seeing some consistently nicer weather
bluewave
It's looking like we should probably finish March with a -4.0 or lower departure at NYC ranking it among the lowest monthly temperature departures of the 2000's so far. I don't think that anyone would have taken a bet at the end of February that we would average only a tenth of an inch more snow than the 0 we got in March 2012 when the temperature averaged 50.9 degrees. He doesnt have those historic forecasts like earlier in the winter when the storms we're going to be products of god wrath. bluewave
What a waste of cold air . Unfortunately, some months the PV just ends up suppressing snow south. December 1989 with a much colder departure was another famous example of this. But at least this year we had a fantastic winter through February. http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/orders/IPS/IPS-DC4940CA-CF5B-40EA-9B66-A85BB1B4F49F.pdf

Arent you done with the snow and cold yet? Frankly we could use the snow. People say "for what" and I say, to make it the second or third snowiest in NYC history. We are not breaking 1995-6 though.
