Central Park dipped to 30 degrees the past hour...MesoNet shows a 24hr max of 32, so it looks like KNYC will (barely) record another subfreezing high temp today for its 29th of the season. #30 should come tomorrow.

Good Post…..looking at noaa maps today nyc metro spent more then half the winter from dec 1st below frz

its been a cold winter! #climo

If my calculation is correct, Chicago's met winter average temperature through 2/26 is 18.9. So given the cold today and the cold start tomorrow, already a lock for #3 coldest winter at least out here.

The cold and snow in the northeast and the even more anomalous cold along with snow out here in the Midwest really shows the power of a persistent -EPO.

Duluth, MN will finish either #1 or #2 coldest, which is pretty incredible.

NYZ072>075-176-178-281400-

NEW YORK (MANHATTAN)-BRONX-RICHMOND (STATEN ISLAND)-

KINGS (BROOKLYN)-NORTHERN QUEENS-SOUTHERN QUEENS-

349 PM EST THU FEB 27 2014

...FRIGID WIND CHILLS TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING...

AN ARCTIC FRONT WILL CROSS THE REGION EARLY THIS EVENING.

SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS...WHICH MAY BE BRIEFLY HEAVY...ARE

EXPECTED WITH THE FRONTAL PASSAGE. IN ITS WAKE...20 TO 30 MPH

WESTERLY WINDS AND GUSTS OF 40 TO 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED THIS

EVENING. THE WINDS WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN AFTER MIDNIGHT...BUT NOT

BEFORE USHERING IN A FRIGID AIRMASS.

TEMPERATURES WILL DROP INTO THE TEENS THROUGH THIS

EVENING...BOTTOMING OUT IN THE SINGLE DIGITS BY DAYBREAK FRIDAY.

THESE TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH WINDS OF 10 TO 15 MPH WILL RESULT

IN WIND CHILLS OF 5 TO 10 DEGREES BELOW ZERO LATE TONIGHT INTO

EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.

I think the air mass next week is colder than this . Which for Early March may not just break records but shatter some .

Truly a remarkable winter. I just can't believe the amount of storms/events we have had the opportunity to track and learn from this winter. To me, this was MUCH more exciting than having 1 blockbuster storm and then nothing or piddle events the rest of the winter. Of course I'm always chasing for the big one, but I have truly had a fantastic time tracking all these "nickel and dime" events this winter.
