Random nub question:  why would the radar not pick up the snow on the back end of the band?  Is there a specific reason for this?

Radar is looking up in the air. The snow's taking a fair amount of time to fall, it's below the radar beam, so radar doesn't see it. Slower storms you don't tend to notice this simply because you're almost always under something that is producing snow.

The snow was blowing from the southeast even though the band came from the west which explains why there was a delay in ground reports versus the radar returns or at least more of a delay than normal.

Thanks fellas!

Still snowing here, but barely.  Tiny little flakes, visibility back over 2 miles.
