You always post photos.  I wasn't questioning anyone.  I'm just saying it seems like every storm is extreme.

There's no denying what happened in NJ yesterday and NYC..yikes!

Well the problem stems from many posting about how heavy ti is snowing when in truth its more like moderate snow. It is very surprising how "heavy" moderate snow can look. The average person usually thinks the snow is heavier than it is. Even experienced snow junkies like myself aren't immune to it. Which is why I really try and use reference points to determine the visibility.

Then when they actually do get real heavy snow...aka <1/4 mile vis...its apocolyptic.

Like yesterday was legit for a while. I had over 3 inches in one hour...but if we call every snow burst epic, then it sort of "cheapens" the real big time stuff IMHO. I know not everyone feels that way, but I personally like to reserve the big descriptor words for events that truly are very anomalous.

Agree on all counts. Some of it is also location. I have several major landmarks at specific points that I can use as a reference ranging from 3 miles down to 1/5th....most don't.

We are an excitable group. Hopefully we are still around when the next 78 hits.

like the 8 per hour in 11 and 6 per Nemo. Yesterday folks in LI NYC had 6 per, I had a 3. Not many years have a 3 per have to say

No, yesterday was very legit. 3" per hour deserves epic I think...or if not, something close. Obviously 5 inches per hour deserves it.

The rest of my post was really describing what I think sometimes creates the misperception or differences of perception amongst posters here.

I'll say that the Feb '13 blizzard deserves most of the descriptors...that was a historic storm. Even at the time (when our memories are less apt to sensationalize things) I believe I mentioned it was a top 5 snowstorm for SNE.

not you bro, not going trash anyone but during it yesterday there were some Debbie stuff.

It always helps others understand when there's photos.  I like posting photos that show a landmark that's .3 miles away exactly...when it vanishes I know it's snowing really hard, when the one that's .15 miles away vanishes I know I'm seeing snow that I may see once a year or two.

I try to post those when possible (daylight).  A lot of others don't and that's fine but it makes it hard to gauge when it's seemingly every storm that's delivering S+ and S++.    A pile of snow on the ground later doesn't demonstrate much but it's really fun to look at for sure.

yesterday i thought the two hr burst was nice but nothing compared to the blizzard and furthermore last weeks swfe actually had heavier rates for an hour or so imby. i know the experience was different in many areas. the only time i have ever seen five and six hr rates was during a windex event when i measured 1.5 inches in 15 to 20 minutes and during the height of it there was thunder lightning and i couldnt see clearly across the street
