11:00 Winchester, VA. First shovel.

 

Light snow , Blowing Snow 26 degrees

19.5 inches so far

 

Just did my first shovel. Took over 2 hours. My neighbor let me use something he called a Canadian Ice Shovel. I had never seen one before. I will include a picture below. It worked great! I gotta buy one. I have over 20 inches on my board but the snow is blowing pretty severely now. I took measurements all over the place and averaged 19.5 so thats what I am going with. Hope to get to 22.

Statement as of 11:20 AM EST on February 13, 2014

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 am EST Friday... 

* precipitation type... heavy snow and light freezing rain or
freezing drizzle.

* Accumulations... less than one-tenth inch of ice. An additional
2 to 5 inches of snow today and tonight. Storm-total snowfall of
15 to 24 inches... with the highest amounts across the far
northern suburbs of Washington DC and Baltimore.

* Timing... snow rates will gradually taper off from south to north
through early afternoon. A mix of light snow... sleet and
freezing rain or freezing drizzle will continue through early
this afternoon. Steadier snow is expected to redevelop late this
afternoon and this evening. A burst of moderate snow is
expected during this time.

* Temperatures... rising into the lower and middle 30s.

* Winds... north 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

* Impacts... roads will be snow covered and slippery. Travel will 
be extremely dangerous. Heavy wet snow could lead to power 
outages.

Message from a local equipment company up here in Frederick that assists in snow removal on their FB page. 

 

SNOW REPORT from Jefferson/Knoxville/Pt ofRocks/Brunswick AREA: 4 - 5 ft snow drifts as of NOW. County trucks cannot keep up with new snow & wind. DO NOT GO OUT. Main roads have JUST enough room for ONE car to pass. Ditches on sides of road are well over 3 feet high & growing. Side roads have NOT been touched. STRAIGHT TALK: DO NOT GO OUT. This event will not stop until Friday. A brief pause is expected this afternoon.
