Stormlover74
thanks guys. battle between sleet and snow here, sleet winning the last 90 mins but 11.5 heavy heavy inches. anyword on the airport area? EWR had climbed to 32 with sleet mixing in. Not sure what they're up to. I saw 6.1" but that was at least an hour and a half ago
jm1220
Follow the HRRR tonite . Check the radar to the south , thats the most serious deformation wrap around babe i have ever seen The GFS is too far N with the heaviest snow tonite . The HRRR has been the Varsity this year in the short term . The HRRR will take the heaviest snow all the way thru NJ NYC and prob LI It rests on the low at 500 closing off south of us later and explosively developing precip over NJ and south of NYC and coming north from there. I'd say there's a decent chance of that because the low will be bombing over Cape Cod. But if the low stays open, it won't be nearly as impressive. But there's hope of 3-6" more if that takes place. These can be real surprisers. On another note, 6" of slop here and 11-13" on the north shore and northern NYC. What a gradient. But I'm done whining and moaning-the snow depth looks great and the prospect of adding more tonight and possibly significantly more Saturday is almost awe inspiring for this climate. Stormlover74
I wasnt too sold on you and me getting the heaviest from the deform band but it looks like a pretty good chance we make the most of that .75+ of QPF as it slams us While it will be fun it will be hard to top the band that just went through and continues to pound the area

RU848789
9" of new snow/sleet on the ground here in Metuchen (Edison area), as of about 10:30 am and it's been mostly sleet since then, with a bit less intensity than before; temp still only 30F. Just finished shoveling for the 2nd time. It's been freakin' wild out there for the last hour or so. We had 3" on the ground as of 7 am then 5" on the ground as of 8 am then 7" on the ground as of 9 am, when I had to do a telecon for work. Sleet starting mixing in around 9:45 am and it oscillated back and forth between mostly sleet or mostly snow until 10:30 am and as I said, it's been mostly/all sleet since then. For a time, I'm sure we had some 3" per hour rates and clearly had an overall 2" per hour rate from 7-9 am - some of the heaviest snow I've ever witnessed, with some flakes (agglomerates, really) honestly the size of silver dollars, at least 2" in diameter and visibility maybe 100 yards. Wish it was still snow, but very happy the rain has held off and still appears to be a few hours away - I'll take sleet any day. Seems like the Russians stopping the Nazis at the Volga in Stalingrad, lol. NWS has upped my area to 10-14" total and while we might not get much more accumulation on the front end, I'm assuming we'll get at least a few inches on the back end and if it does go above freezing it would be awesome if that coincided with the dry slot. NWS graphics have me down for 2-3" on the back end, which would get me to 12-14", depending if I get more in the next hour or two. Amazing storm.
