where are you in DC now again? Just did measurement and got 7.8"

near Thomas Circle...I'm sure I picked up more since last measurement but I doubt I am more than 6.5"...we've probably had more rimed flakes and a little sleet too....I dont do as well as Ian and Randy, so makes sense though 7.8" seems a bit high to me....you slant-sticking it ;)

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON DC
355 AM EST THU FEB 13 2014

.SYNOPSIS...
LOW PRESSURE OFF THE SOUTHEAST COAST WILL WILL INTENSIFY THROUGH
TONIGHT AS IT TRACKS UP THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST. HIGH PRESSURE WILL
BRIEFLY RETURN FRIDAY...BEFORE A COLD FRONT PASSES THROUGH FRIDAY
NIGHT. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVERHEAD SATURDAY FOLLOWED BY
ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE TROUGH MOVING THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT INTO
SUNDAY.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
THE UPPER-LEVEL LOW IS TRACKING THROUGH THE GULF COAST STATES
EARLY THIS MORNING. THE TROUGH AXIS IS SWINGING TOWARD BEING
NEGATIVELY TILTED...AND THIS IS CAUSING COASTAL LOW PRESSURE TO
RAPIDLY INTENSIFY ALONG THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST.

THE COASTAL LOW WILL CONTINUE TO INTENSIFY AS IT TRACKS UP THE
MID-ATLANTIC COAST TODAY. PRECIPITATION HAS OVERSPREAD THE ENTIRE
AREA. THE STORM IS EXPECTED TO COME IN TWO PARTS. HEAVY
PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED EARLY THIS MORNING WITH THE FIRST PART
OF THE STORM. STRONG DIVERGENCE ALOFT COMBINED WITH A POTENT
EASTERLY LOW-LEVEL JET AND MID-LEVEL CONVERGENCE HAS CAUSED
BANDING PRECIPITATION OVER OUR AREA. WARMER AIR HAS WORKED ITS WAY
IN FROM THE EAST AND IT WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO...CAUSING SNOW TO
MIX WITH AND CHANGE TO RAIN AND SLEET SOUTH AND EAST OF INTERSTATE
95. HOWEVER...FOR LOCATIONS NEAR AND WEST OF I-95 PRECIPITATION
WILL FALL PRIMARILY IN THE FORM OF SNOW. A BAND OF VERY HEAVY SNOW
IS EXPECTED ACROSS THESE AREAS EARLY THIS MORNING WITH SNOWFALL
RATES AROUND ONE TO AS MUCH AS THREE INCHES PER HOUR. WINTER STORM
WARNINGS REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR ALL AREAS EXPECTED EXTREME LOWER
SOUTHERN MARYLAND WHERE A WINTER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT.

THE DRY SLOT SHOULD WORK ITS WAY INTO MOST AREAS LATER THIS
MORNING...CAUSING PRECIPITATION RATES TO DECREASE. HOWEVER...LIGHT
TO OCCASIONALLY MODERATE SNOW IS STILL EXPECTED NEAR AND WEST OF
THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS. LIGHT SNOW/SLEET AND RAIN IS EXPECTED
NEAR AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 95.

THE UPPER-LEVEL LOW CURRENTLY OVER THE GULF COAST STATES WILL
PIVOT NORTHEAST THROUGH OUR AREA LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING
WHILE COLDER AIR RETURNS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE SURFACE LOW.
THERE IS STILL SOME DISAGREEMENT AMONG THE MODELS AS TO HOW MUCH
PRECIPITATION WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS...BUT THE FORECAST HAS
BEEN TRENDED TOWARD THE EURO AND NAM WHERE HIGHER QPF AMOUNTS ARE
FORECASTED. THIS IS DUE TO THE STRONG FORCING THAT WILL BE
ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM AS IT CLOSES OFF AND INTENSIFIES WHILE
MOVING THROUGH OUR AREA. THEREFORE...ANOTHER PERIOD OF MODERATE TO
LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED ACROSS MOST LOCATIONS...FIRST IN
CENTRAL VIRGINIA LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENTUALLY INTO THE
WASHINGTON AND BALTIMORE METROPOLITAN AREAS AS WELL AS SOUTHERN
MARYLAND AND THE VIRGINIA PIEDMONT THIS EVENING. ADDITIONAL
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS AROUND TWO TO FOUR INCHES ARE POSSIBLE
UNDERNEATH THIS SYSTEM. WINTER WEATHER HEADLINES CONTINUE THROUGH
THIS EVENING FOR CENTRAL VIRGINIA AND THE POTOMAC HIGHLANDS...AND
INTO LATE TONIGHT ACROSS THE WASHINGTON AND BALTIMORE METROPOLITAN
AREAS AS WELL AS SOUTHERN MARYLAND.
