UlsterCountySnowZ
Light snow currently falling.. Amazing how even the lightest precip is overrunning the dry air
jm1220
District is too big. It really should be broken up. Kids in Queens and SI and part of Brooklyn will have difficulty getting in. Manhattan is different. The Bronx will likely have even more snow. Who will staff these schools? Staff concerns should be considered as well. Guys, school discussions should be in the banter thread. Deleting all these.
ILiveforThis!
Light snow, coating. Scarsdale approx 2 miles south of White Plains.
Rib
I think school closings deserve it's own thread or in the banter thread. The obs thread used to say shut up and post obs for a reason although posting short term models is okay.
Thunder7842
the administration is getting reports of 4-8 inches. NYC schools do not close for that. if there is a changeover as modeled, they feel they can get the day in. All of the major forecasters in the area are going with around 6 then rain. Even Joe Sobel. Are they gonna believe them or people here? When I was a kid the NYC schools did not close for snow. If they are wrong they will shrug it off. Not all major forecasters. Nick Gregory had 9 to 12 for NYC, and said it could go even higher based on the new data tonight.

Rjay
NYC will most likely see 12+ inches of snow out of this. Looks like a MECS/HECS is on tap. Mecs looks very possible. NYC 12"+ looks like a good call too...i do hate the terms secs, mecs and hecs though
WintersGrasp
I've noticed on the latest RAP and HRRR that rather than push right into NENJ, the heaviest returns and the best dynamics move from Monmouth county into Long Island bypassing this area. Is this maybe a good thing and a sign that the colder air is preventing a changeover longer ?

Sometimes it over corrects though so we have to keep an eye on it. chietanen
Took this from NWS ALB, talks about the coastal front setting up all the way to Nantucket: AS OF 1215 AM EST...A 1003MB LOW PRESSURE EAST OF WILMINGTON NC WASTRACKING NNE ABOUT 25 MPH. THIS LOOKS TO BE THE PRIMARY LOW CENTERTHAT WILL BECOME A FULL BLOWN NOR`EASTER BY LATER TODAY.MEANWHILE...THERE WAS A SLEW OF CONVECTION OFF THE EASTERNSEABOARD...NEAR THE GULF STREAM WHICH WILL HELP PUMP THE STORM ANDEASTWARD RIDGE...LIKELY FORCING THE STORM RIGHT UP JUST OFF THEEASTERN SEABOARD.ALSO...IT APPEARS THAT A COASTAL FRONT WAS SETTING UP EVEN AS FARNORTH AS NANTUCKET WHERE SURFACE WINDS HAVE SHIFTED TO THESOUTHEAST. THIS WILL BE THE PATH THE STORM TAKES...JUST OFF THEEASTERN SEABOARD.
SRRTA22
I remember this being brought up before but correct me if I'm wrong but this is the 650-500mb EPVg but I think we need this to move up to bring the heavier snows in. We need the forcing to move more north which will happen in due time
Storm chaser
Im a light to moderate snow but at 20 degrees the ratios must be a lot better than 8-10/1 that some were predicting.
