eduggs
Definitely has picked up this morning. I been following all morning. Some heavier stuff approaching Albany on radar now. Just checked radar and models for the first time all day. I had vouched to not obsess over the data this storm and go outside and enjoy it, but I ultimately couldn't resist. And I was surprised to see how excellent the radar looks. And guidance has converged on a consensus of QPF over 1.25". For the time being, things look fantastic. Syrmax
Nice to see GFS and NAM, CMC (?) finally showing an SLP track into LI and across SNE. UL support and dynamics should ensure ALB gets hit hard. Might even make it's way back into CNY with borderline Warning snows.
eduggs
Heavy snow in downtown Albany. 25.7F. Vis < 1/4 mile. 4" OTG with 1.5" in the past hour. Current rate probably ~3"/hr. Insane outside!
eduggs
Hopefully the lack of posts in this thread mean that the handful of ENY board members are all outside enjoying this pounding. Or maybe people are actually diligently working. Surface temps are soaring into the upper 20s, but it's still dumping outside. The intensity is down a touch from a ridiculous 4"/hr to a more manageable 2"/hr or so.
Gorizer
Getting pounded with 35 DBZ snows here in Schenectady County now!
ENYsnow
Just measured, 5.75" for the event so far. Radar looks iffy to the southeast of ALB right now.. looking good further west wherever that band pivots
BigDeal
Albany NWS discussion is very bullish on the return of a big snow band tonight with an additional 6 - 12 on top of what we already have! They mention the possibility of thundersnow. That would be fun!
eduggs
Bandlets N, S, E, and W of the ALB downtown area. A really impressive band out towards Schenectady. But the radar reflectivities are drying up around ALB metro. I wonder if there is some meso terrain influence going on. Looking forward to heavier snow moving back in later tonight. eduggs
Quite the lull for the past few hours. Banding setting up pretty far west...
eduggs
6+ hour lull is a total buzzkill. I hope the stuff later tonight makes up for it. But I might not be awake when it comes.
phoenixny
4.5" for Phoenix so far. Expecting maybe 6 to 8 total?
eduggs
Radar echoes look like possible sleet/freezing rain way up into the western Catskills. Mid-level warmth really punched far to the NW today. I wonder if we start as sleet in the ALB area.
eduggs
Dry air punching into NNJ is a little concerning. But the inflow off the Atlantic is beautiful and numerous reports of Thunder are exciting.
