29.8 here this morning, what a day it turned out to be though!

EDIT:  I just noticed all of the frosty comments.  I only had a little frost, it was mostly dry.  Down the hill towards Alburtis I did see a more full coverage of frost, I bet there were 25~27 degree readings down there.  (my car thermometer is whacko so I don't count that lol)

Red flags are up for a widespread area from VA to southern New England.  Our grass in se PA has greened up pretty good, but the woods are still all dead leaves and tree limbs from the ice storm. I guess last nights rain will not help much with the winds ripping. Highest gust so far this AM is 39 mph here in Worcester, PA.

BEACHWOOD — A "very large" brush fire has ignited in the western part of Beachwood, according to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said that residents on Northern Boulevard in the Bayville section of Berkeley are being told to evacuate their homes. About 50 acres are on fire near Pinewald Road close to the Berkeley Township border, WABC-7 reported. The fire broke out at about 12:30 p.m. Authorities planned to evacuate students from Toms River Intermediate South School, but children are now being kept in the building. Earlier the sheriff's office said students would be brought to Pine Belt Arena in Toms River."

  • 2 weeks later...

A little confused here what happened to the overnight and morning rain? Not that the rain is needed with 5" the last week. Looked like a sure thing and even the time frame was moved up with radar returns in the afternoon and drippage started at 5pm. Didn't water new transplants because it looked like a stone cold guarantee :(

What has happened to the weather.gov site? I couldn't load it this morning, and I can't tonight either.  Really need it, as tomorrow (5/10) is the NJ World Series of Birding, and the weather is critical to plans and routes, not to mention the presence and distribution of migrating birds.  I don't see anything on their Facebook page either.

No birders thought today would be all that great, as easterly winds at this time of year are not good for migrants.  But the storms to the immediate north of NJ must have put up a barrier, and the birding was quite good all day long in northern NJ, and birds piled up.  One more day, please, of storms blocking the northward movement - and light southwest winds with a warm, clear night, with a late shower or two crossing around 4 am. That's the ticket for a record-breaking day tomorrow!

If you really want heavy rain, try putting down some topsoil and grass seed. It worked for me two weeks ago - pic is from Wed. April 30th (5" of rain here). Had some frost blanket material from last fall (which works great for it's intended purpose by the way), it came in handy for keeping most of the seed from getting washed away. It took a while to germinate, due to ground temps I suppose. September is the best month for seeding but I got a little impatient :).
