RodneyS
I just noticed that Weather Underground is now doing a 15-day city forecast, However, even in the short-term, the forecast may vary dramatically from the forecast of its parent company, the Weather Channel. For example, wunderground is currently forecasting a major snowstorm (total of 6-11 inches) for Washington, DC Wednesday night into Thursday; see http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:22222.4.99999&MR=1. Weather.com, on the other hand is calling for snow showers in DC on Wednesday, with an unspecified amount of snow on Thursday; see http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Washington+DC+USDC0001:1:US Are these forecasts done completely independently? Apparently, the forecasts are done independently because now Weather Underground is calling for 7-12 inches of snow in DC on February 28th-March 1st, while Weather.com has partly cloudy in DC on the 28th with a 20% chance of precipitation and mostly sunny there on the 1st with a 10% chance of precipitation. Less than 24 hours later, Weather Underground has backed off on any snow for DC on February 28-March 1, making it (for the moment) consistent with Weather.com. weatherwiz
That is absolutely ridiculous you have anyone giving snowfall amounts that far in advance. That is beyond responsible and eventually something needs to be done about this. I can't stand people or organizations or whoever who always have to be first when it comes to making a forecast in such a situation and then always try to claim victories. The only goals should be informing the public and doing so in the most accurate fashion possible and being as honest as possible...not to draw ratings, increase your publicity.
