Buddy1987
RaleighWx with the low developing east of CHS does this go back to any past systems where the lows prefer to follow the gulf channel or is this just simply where the energy happened to transfer? NC_WX10
I'm not sure I've ever seen it snow this hard during the day. This is crazy. How much do you have on the ground? I'm at a little over an inch.
BigWeather
Yeah this storm is a rare daytime heavy snow for us here in Cary. Seems like every single system that dumps on us starts evening-time and wraps up after dawn -- the Jan 2000 one, the one two weeks ago (though that was hardly a dump). snowinnc
Over 3" in North Raleigh. So beautiful. I agree with the previous posters who said that this is Atlanta part II. It took me two hours to go five miles. The only reason it didn't take me longer was because my cut through worked. The main roads are AWFUL. Aquawind
So those bright radar returns are indeed sleet. I figured, but was hoping for SN+. Looks like the pingers are here to stay for a while. Often if they are talking about possible sleet and you have the yellow returns they are sleet. Sometimes the precip is coming down so hard it just can't turn to snow and ends up a mix or sleet which reflects on the radar as heavier precip.
