chapelhillwx
Our dining hall is closed. I had hoped to drive to McDonald's to get a biscuit but it's closed so now I'm eating a disgusting 99 cent honey bun.

FLweather
I have a good/bad feeling. Bad feeling maybe the mountains and foot hills get screwed out of qpf... but better for the 85 corridor east. Judging by the place of the SLP. We may have this later this afternoon into tonight. RTPGiants
Most of the roads are treated this time, so hopefully it won't be as bad. Plus the schools are out. Those two components were the two biggest issues in 2005. In my commute to the park today, it's true that some big roads are treated (40, 55, etc.), but anything in the park proper is not (Davis, Cornwallis, Miami). Still somewhat worried about the timing setup. Schools being closed in Wake (not Durham) helps though, yes.

I'm still hoping to get a quick trip out around lunchtime before the fun starts, radar starting to look a little sketchy for that.

NCSU_Pi
ncweather: you are a tease with that picture. My older brother was a freshman at State when that rolled through. It would be two more years before I got to State, so I was stuck back in Shallotte where we got a dusting. But I made up for it by living in Maryland in the '09/'10 winter. Snowiest winter in recorded history, where we got crushed by near-blizzard conditions in consecutive storms a week apart.

wncsnow
Robert is worried about the convection robbing moisture transport, easily noticeable on radar in GA
Berlin1926
Its a good possibility if it tracks far enough offshore. Stay safe neighbor. Back roads are not being treated over here in northern Granville.
ekman
lolz... if only you could be up for weenie of the year. So, back in the USENET days on the college basketball newsgroups we had this thing we called "anti-woofing," which was an attempt to influence the direction of the universe by falsely underselling your team. EG, a Carolina guy saying "Boy, I just hope Duke doesn't blow Carolina out by halftime." I have to think a lot of the "OMG there's no precip over my town it's going to be a huge BUST" falls into the same category.

packbacker
So Robert induced a manic panic about moisture robbing, maybe it's good we aren't forecasted for a big snows as I would be getting nervous.
Berlin1926
Just a reminder... The salt on the roads will start to not work when the temps are below 27f...so if you are driving, take it easy and keep an eye on your vehicle's external thermometer if you have one. Dunkman
Some people in the main thread need to make better use of the weenie freak out thread. Rule of thumb...if you are freaking out, it goes in the weenie thread.
BullCityWx
Temp at the closest Wxbug station is down to 23 with the snow falling. That's a little ahead of schedule. With a dewpoint of 17, might make it down to 20 or 21.
chapelhillwx
HRRR looks pretty good for the upstate and WNC. I would hold off on freakouts. It seems to close the precip hole in GA by the time it gets here.
FLweather
Stay safe neighbor. Back roads are not being treated over here in northern Granville. You too. When aren't they? They do the same here treat the main routes and let the rest be.
weatherheels
O god, this is storm cancel all the way around. This thing is weaker than progged, got that gulf stormsrobbing us big time, gonna put us in a dry slot major. 850 temps gonna be too warm to sustain this as all snow, will probably get 2" of sleel looking at the radar. O ner'mind, storm hasnt started here yet.

Berlin1926
....regarding roads...if your DOT is using brine and it's been raining, the salt to liquid ratio will handicapped even more as temps fall below 27.
