wake4est
You already had your storm. What, my 1.7 inches 2 weeks ago? I guess it was better than what you got up the road...
CherokeeGA
Anyone that wants an ice storm: 1. Is foolish 2. Never been in one. Being without power sucks for even a day...much less weeks. They are beautiful...I'll give you that, until the cracking starts...and power goes out. This. I am actually really worried about ATL metro and NGa for this. FFC is really really unsure what the ptypes are going to be. Every model says something different. We haven't had icing on the trees for years... there's a lot of vulnerability here right now. Brick Tamland
WPC says watch out. THE ICE ACCUMULATIONS REMAIN POSSIBLY PARALYZING IF NOTHISTORICAL WITH ADDITIONAL .50 TO .75 INCH AXIS FROM AHN TO CAE TORDU AND 8 TO 10 INCHES OR SNOW FROM AVL/GSP TO ROA/LYH/CHO. One thing that's not been talked about is it's going to be pretty damn windy. nam/gfs is showing substained winds on the order of 15 to 20 knots. That is really bad news for folks getting the freezing rain.
Evilpony
Good Mornin ya'll WSPA (GSP) is now stating that we will get 2 to 6 inches of snow and some mix, and where i live in the southern part of Spartanburg county to expect power outage. I Love Snow and Miss it. But not lookin forward to power loss and hoping it's not as bad as 2002.
Dunkman
Expect a significant west shift on the NAM. If there's a significant west shift on the NAM it's going to be an app runner.
Tony Sisk
The fox 21 met must be looking at a worse model than me! She just showed a map that has 2-4 for most of the upstate, a 1-3 swath from NC/SC border to Asheville and a stripe of 3-5 inches over the high mountains. our weather mets in the upstate are more for entertainment...of lack thereof in most cases. They are beautiful...I'll give you that, until the cracking starts...and power goes out. The ice storm will happen...there is nothing myself or anyone else can do about that....I've been in more ice/snow/frigid weather during my 44 years than I can remember. I've checked off blizzards,F5 tornado, earthquake, flood, hurricane, extreme heat, extreme cold....so why not top a previous ice event? I know what it's like to go without power in the coldest weather and the hottest weather for a few days. My last experience here was in '02(I believe) and I was without power for 4 days. This isn't my first rodeo I have been meaning to tell you I'll miss you for those few weeks you aren't here lol Especially with regard to moderating duties In all seriousness, I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. I'm hoping something saves you from that much Well....it appears this area has a 6-7 hr window to get it done My thinking at the moment is close to the inch mark.....I hope I'm wrong . Yes, but the only good thing is that the ice should melt later in the day. So at least the weather will be decent while you are out of power for a week. This is true

Only been in a couple of any significance here, but I'm good with no power if that's what it takes to experience something as wild as an inch of ice accrual. Made it through canes down in New Orleans so this can't be any worse. No flooding...at least so long as a tree doesn't come through the roof Six inches of snow, with an inch of ice on top, followed by a few more inches of snow on top to hide the debris. My dream/nightmare storm. Bring It!

Winds that high will make even <.25 lower amounts of FR (that normally might not break many limbs when the air is still) much, much more dangerous. This isn't my first rodeo I like that attitude, Buckeye!! Embrace the ice!! Anyone that wants an ice storm: 1. Is foolish 2. Never been in one. Well, I've been in several doozies before, and it was quite the ride. I believe it's a little harsh to call people who enjoy ice storms, "foolish." We have differences of opinion. People somehow managed to scrape by and live (nay, even thrive) without power for umpteen centuries in the past. I believe it's still quite possible to somehow suffer through and press on without power for a couple days in this "modern" world.

Considering how much destruction can come from them to houses, vehicles, etc, wishing for one that knocks out power is very uncool.
calculus1
Considering how much destruction can come from them to houses, vehicles, etc, wishing for one that knocks out power is very uncool. Wishing has nothing to do with it. It doesn't matter what I (or you) wish for or don't wish for. I have no control over the weather. If my wishes were so powerful, do you think I would wish for ice? I'd be wishing for foot-deep snows in WNC each week. Wishing is pointless. What will happen, will happen, regardless of how I feel about it. Who said I wished for one? snowinnc
The same reason folks are saying it's just going to be rain, because that's what I think will happen. Oh Brick, how I wish I could share your positive feelings. IIRC didn't you say we would get 2-4" this last snow event? I'm thinking you are doing a lot of wishcasting, which is totally fine!
