I got nothing more then 1/4" and what we are 15 miles apart?

Started around 3:30 ... <1 mile visibility by 4PM ... 4:30-5:30 visibility was mostly <1/2 mile ... I looked at radar (composite not base) around 5:30 thinking it will lighten up for an hour and pick back up.   I went to play some board games with the kids and then sometime around 6:30 I looked out and was like WTF.  Composite Radar still looked just fine until I switched to Base and was in shock.  I have never seen that where the column was saturated with heavy snow falling to having dry air issues (composite radar having solid greens on top) within a storm.

The storm probably ingested some dry air into the lower levels as it was wrapping up.

Sure will miss all this snowpack when it's gone. I hope the torch doesnt take all of it, though with an inch of rain and foggy 40's on the horizon it'll be close.

Itll be a mess but it wont take all of it.

Probably one of the fastest nothing to heavy snows from a storm I can remember (outside of lake squalls or arctic fronts). Rapid accumulation as well.

Yes...but go back and look at old model runs as well as old simulated radar images. It was predicted to happen.

Don't care about some model run. No offense lol. Storm was ahead schedule and ran into significant dry air that was in place. Even DTX mentioned snow starting after 4pm.

Congrats to everyone on the snow. Thanks for posting all of the pics. Alek, your Loop shots were awesome.

IWX's Facebook page has a picture taken in Hilsdale, MI of mammatus clouds. Quite potent little storm.

Sitting at just over 2" here, alternating between -SN and SN. Quite a bit of [expletive] mixing in earlier held down totals.

My snow-hating boss texted me at 8:12pm saying "snow, thunder, and lightning!". She lives 5 miles south of me in Trenton. And I was eating dinner and missed it. Dammit! Snowing like hell though and wow is it accumulating quick. Easily 1-2"/hr.

My boss said it happened twice in trenton, then someone on facebook reported thunder and lightning in Woodhaven as well. Those cities border me, so Im sure I just missed it. Now that I pay attention, its just plain ole heavy snow

Dammit...so per facebook, there was amazing lightning in Grosse Ile, Trenton, and Woodhaven...all of those cities basically wrap around Wyandotte. So basically, I was being a lazy weather observer by taking my eyes off the skies lightning.gif

Quite possible that you location simply hasn't gotten the TSSN.

It happened with me on 2/20/11 (you best believe I was looking out for it), and it's happening now.
