Looks like Henry M is still on the big storm idea. I honestly think he is gonna bust hard. This might be a situation were the first storm sets the stage for the v-day storm.

Yep. If the models have lost the storm this long it likely isn't coming back.

Henry is pretty awful, IMO. He did this with a huge historic apps mega bomb that was modeled a couple years ato that then fell off the models. He kept saying it would come back, going as far as to say a volcano eruption in Alaska was impacting the models.

Needless to say our 30 inch storm with 40 mph winds never came, and he melted down when people called him out on it.

So...  if there's no more 6"+ storms the rest of the season (I probably put the whammy on it now), would you guys be satisfied with this winter?  I think I would be.

Lots of cold, lots of smaller-moderate systems to track. No serious ice storm headaches. It's been fun.

At last look..  it does seem that the Euro/GFS/Canadian are all showing something around Valentine's Day or so.  Hopefully that continues.

I think Wes said it best in the MA forum - this pattern is very difficult to pin down.  If we're going to get snow, chances are we won't know how or when until <48 hours from the onset of the event.  It will be okay to watch the pattern develop, but honestly any storm that shows up is going to either disappear or completely evolve over the period.

Will keep an eye out over the next couple weeks, but I would (obviously) prefer to have higher confidence in getting something of some significance.  My "educated" guess says 5% chance right now.

I'll admit I was disappointed with all the missed oppurtunities in November and December, knowing dry and bitter cold was on the way.

However the mega-squall we got a few Saturday's ago( just hours after the 3-5" clipper) helped me appreciate what we had, as opposed to what could have been.

Being able to witness zero visibility, even for just a few minutes, was pretty awesome.

So yeah, I'm good.

( I guess ) LOL

Definitely satisfied here.. Three 6"+ storms and plenty of 2-4" ones as well.

2011-12 only managed 19" of snow out at State College... This winter could have done much better, but still was above average anyway.

Ehh I am kind of satisfied but we missed out on some heavy snows here. I just want that one storm similar to march last year were we get 8 inches or more. It doesnt have to be a 2010 redux but something more than moderate. Still almost 2 months to go, still have a chance. Wonder what the 00z will show for all the storms tonight, hopefully something promising.

Find it kind of odd that its been snowing around the area since about 6 but nws still has us at partly cloudy. Only amounted to about a half inch but still kinda weird. To answer your question, I am definitely happy with this winter. I don't see any reason why we won't near 60 inches. After experiencing the winters of 05-06, 06-07, anything above 40 inches is a win in my book. We may not have had the big one yet, but I can't recall a winter that has had such consistent snow cover and cold weather. Beats torching any day.

I think it just depends on your perspective of what you want out of winter. I'm pretty much a storm guy, so I'm definitely not satisfied. Can't say I'm disappointed either since it has snowed a lot this winter overall, just lots of small amounts. I'm the kind of person that would take a foot or more of snow from a storm even if it meant getting nothing the rest of the winter. I don't think I've picked up more than 3 inches from any system this season. Just a lot of nickel and dimers in my backyard. I think getting all of these nuisance snows can be more of a pain than anything. Just enough snow to cause problems, but not enough to where you can just call work and take the day off and enjoy it. Again, that's just what I like. We're all different.

I guess I can say I'm pleased with this winter. I remember many torch winters and/or below avg. snowfall. But like blackandgold I am a storm guy as well. Just wanting that one bomb of a storm to come through. I just have many fond memories of the big storms and looking to have that happen again. Plus I bought new tires for my wifes Jeep and mine right before winter and want to really test them out  ;) .

When it comes to snow, I'm never satisfied, haha!  In fairness, the most snow I've ever seen in a given winter is about 50" total.  I would like to spend a winter somewhere with more consistent big snowfalls (think a ski town somewhere with 300 to 400" per annum) to see if I could actually get sick of snow.

I'm definitely about those big snows.  Four years now since I've seen a decent size storm, so I'm getting that itch again.  Really can't complain about this winter, though.  Snow (even a little) always beats rain when it's cold.
