forkyfork
With 2010, it's 9. Without, it's 6.it would probably look more skewed toward this decade if we moved the criteria to 10". a lot of the events pre 1920s were moderate

uncle W
I still think some of the snowfalls in the past were measured when the storm ended...one example is the 1960's storms...the amount that was measured was the depth when it ended...some like the 12.5" in January 1964 was rounded up to 13" snow depth for two days... And I bet if you looked at Allentown's and Harrisburg's average between 2000-2014 we'd see an average less than NYC's and less than their long term average. Absolutely-the last decade has not been good for far inland spots in PA (it has been better for Allentown since they are further east). There have been many more Miller B-type storms, late developers, SWFEs, and storm types that do not favor that area. They've almost become a colder version of DC. yhbrooklyn
I gave a stat to earthlight yesterday that the 15 year average is 31.11, which is the highest since the end of 1947-48. Now that's impressive.
yhbrooklyn
A cool record to break would be calendar year. That one was set way back in 1896 with 64.0" 1996 was #2 with 61.3 and that's only because Oct-Dec had 0.1" total. It really means nothing and it's difficult because patterns change over the year, but it's an old record.

donsutherland1
With NYC now at 55.6" snow to date, a quick look at past seasons when NYC reached 50" or more snow by the end of February reveals that March will likely see some additional snows. Odds favor NYC surpassing 60" seasonal snowfall. The following winters saw NYC reach 50" or more snow by the end of February. March snowfall figures are shown for those winters: 1872-73: 0.4" 1898-99: 4.8" 1922-23: 8.1" 1947-48: 4.7" 1960-61: 1.2" 1995-96: 13.2" Mean: 5.4" Median: 4.8" Needed for 60": 4.4" % with at least 4.4" in March: 67%
GiantBlizzard2003
We may reach 60" by the end of February. I think this winter will make a run for 70" before it is done. At my location in Roselle NJ we are already over 60" for the season.
