sokolow
winds really howling down by the lakeNo joke. Screaming wind and blowing snow. Here's looking north towards the city. To the southside (represent). Nice to see the plows are out. For all the bike commuters.
A-L-E-K
nice pics, when the lake has a couple hundred yards of near shore ice, it's like being out in a country field, just nothing to stop the NE winds from blowing it all onto the shoreline. Geos
Epic ice pictures. I hope the sun comes out and helps melt some of that. Otherwise your car could be frozen solid for awhile. Picture looking into the LES band in Racine.
stormtrackertf
your weenie software is on the fritz...some might mistake this for drunk posting but it's a snow overdose There has to be about 8" of snow out here right now, incredible. And +SN moving back in after a little bit of a lull. No joke. Screaming wind and blowing snow. Here's looking north towards the city. image.jpg To the southside (represent). Nice to see the plows are out. image.jpg For all the bike commuters. image.jpg Just epic. That word has been thrown around a lot (even by me) but this winter literally is epic. stormtrackertf
Although it was way too juiced, looks like the 12z NAM turned out to be surprisingly spot on with a secondary jackpot band being further north from about ORD-DTW.
stormtrackertf
Just before 7am... FOR DTW... A BURST OF SNOW BETWEEN 12Z AND 15Z WILL PRODUCE ANADDITIONAL 1-2 INCHES OF ACCUMULATION BEFORE DIMINISHING FOR TOTALACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 5 INCHES FROM LAST EVENING THROUGH NOON TODAY.GUSTY NORTH WINDS WILL ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING. This burst of snow has easily produced 3-5" alone.
Geos
Nice linear cloud structures running through NE IL off the lake. Snow pulling out up here. Skies are becoming brighter.
stormtrackertf
NWS Detroit/Pontiac in White Lake has a snow depth of over 20" now. At 7AM, DTW's was 14". I gotta think with the bands they've been under since then they have to be pushing 17, 18 or more inches.

stormtrackertf
Normally this is the point where I'd chastise DTX for not going for a WSW, but I gotta admit...when I went to bed last night about midnight I legitimately was wondering if 3-5" might even be too high from how anemic the radar was looking to our south.I wanna say this probably caught everyone off guard, but the way this winter has been it seems like most people are expecting the worst...or best in us snow lovers' case. Chicago WX
Need to start closing the highway when the snow starts... Seriously. It's unbelievable how awful people are on that road, in wintery conditions. I've lost track how many times I-65 has been shut down this winter. Yeah, they've closed more times this year than in the past decade. THough, only if you count the two in the early January storm before classes were in session. They shut down one day in my four years at Purdue...and that was for the Jan 1994 arctic outbreak.
