Mallow
Moderate sleet currently with arrival of the heavier precip. Now to see how the column responds. Edit: Trying to sneak some flakes back in. Keep us updated! Hoping you go back to snow.

MAG5035
As Mag said, the sleet is the heaviest its been here, its pinging off the windows left and right. Its fighting to go back over to snow up here. About 50/50 sleet to big fluffy dive bomb flakes.
ravensrule
Crap so much ice out on my dish, TV not working. Go pour hot water on it and it will start working, i have done that in many ice storms here.
meteo
Its about a 90/10 sleet snow mix right now.
AlexP
Flipped to ZR in Harrisburg. Temp up 3 degrees since the changeover. Up to 29 now.
Mallow
Mallow what's up in State college? We've been in this sleety lull for a while. Waiting to see what this next band has in store. Per dual-pol products, the mixing line may be stuck just to our south (certainly hasn't progressed noticeably in the past half hour or so). Superstorm93
Drop size probably plays a factor as well. A heavy rain with the finer droplets would likely still accumulate fairly well. Hm thanks. Good point. I did notice that they weren't too large at all during the Jeb walk. More like heavy drizzle and some smaller droplets mixed in Using GS4 Tapatalk
Laurel Highlands Wx
Its fighting to go back over to snow up here. About 50/50 sleet to big fluffy dive bomb flakes. Using dual-pol would you say areas along 219 that are in lighter returns freezing rain most likely?

CarlislePaWx
Based on ground reports from Cashtown and AlexP it seems like it is just a matter of 15 minutes until I start to switch back over to ZR. Just measured 0.8" of sleet on the board. Temp up just a bit but still holding at 27.0 degrees. I guess the sign of the changeover will be the rising temps. But, for the moment the pinging continues unabated.
ravensrule
It's on the roof. lol That is a problem, mine is on the side of my house for exactly that reason. It was originally on my roof but i had it moved to the side of my house.
Mallow
Using dual-pol would you say areas along 219 that are in lighter returns freezing rain most likely? Using dual-pol, I'd say that the Cambria/Clearfield County line is where the snow/sleet line is. And it's not really moving right now.
Mallow
Even though dual-pol would suggest I might be getting snow right now, it's actually more like sleet than snow. But in reality, I'd characterize the precip as "very heavily rimed, partially melted and refrozen snow".

Superstorm93
It's on the roof. lol That has Darwin Award written all over it. I can literally see the branches awkwardly moving from all the ice on them for my window. Just down want to lose power. Using GS4 Tapatalk

But in reality, I'd characterize the precip as "very heavily rimed, partially melted and refrozen snow". That's how it's been down here, it's hard for me to call it a true sleet that pounds holes in the snow when it falls. Lot's of snow grains too. Still some actual snowflakes making it down. Really haven't found any pronounced warming via mesoanalysis either. It seems that there could be a thin slightly above freezing layer somewhere between 850 and 700mb but both layers are still just below freezing near UNV. What is still deeply below freezing is the 925mb layer, which has the -6C isotherm dipping all the way south of Altoona. During writing this post snow has become the more dominant p-type again for the moment lol.

Pure freezing rain would show up as similar to pure snow/rain. We don't have to worry about ZR up here any time soon.

I am not worried about ZR up here. Was just curious about back home. But since Indiana is 25 it would be a snow/sleet mix or sure. .
