Bob Chill
Holy crap that is a sick ice storm. The pic of those dudes walking down the sidewalk next to trees is kinda funny. Or scary. Even if a branch doesn't fall a chunk of thick ice falling from 50 feet can get the job done.

AdamHLG
The thing that really sucks is that this thread is dying like a storm past and by tomorrow everyone will be on a valentines day thread and then it's over in the virtual world. But in reality it's not over because my yard, street and neighborhood are trashed. And those trees some of which were favorites are not coming back. :--( Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
nw baltimore wx
OK I'm not trying to start anything, but why are you so bitter? There are a lot of areas that are more than just inconvenienced by this storm. Even here in my neighborhood, where schools opened on time (at least the ones with power), half the neighborhood is still out of power. Fifteen miles up the road and nearly half of Carroll county had no power this morning, and even now, 1 in 8 still don't. I'm not affected by any of it because the worst that happened here was a neighbor's tree came down and I've got an afternoon of small branches to clean and helping her cut up a decent sized branch. But what I don't understand is why you slight it when in fact, for many, it was not only an inconvenience, but ultimately a hefty expense. So, what's up? nj2va
10 inches of concrete. Had 7 packed down before the ice storm hit last night, and now about 5 to 6 inch pack of thick frozen slush. Dont think any snow fell with this storm. Power is still out but with the wind it is dangerous to be out near trees. They are still breaking like crazy. Stay safe up there (and everyone else affected for that matter). Hopefully you get your power back on soon.

Making off hand remarks like the Mason Dixon being destroyed, when no one said it was, just comes off rather ****ty. Especially to those of us who are dealing with damage from the storm Wednesday. Making off hand remarks like the Mason Dixon being destroyed, when no one said it was, just comes off rather ****ty. Especially to those of us who are dealing with damage from the storm Wednesday. Come on. Someone else (who has a tendency to make bombastic statements) said that the area was trashed (I've quoted it below for your reference)? I played on that. I'm sorry, it's not as if this was some widespread, major destruction of a region. It was an ice storm that has inconvenienced people. I feel bad for people who lost power or had some trees and branches down in their yard/neighborhood. But seriously...does this need to be so overdramatized? X2. Mason Dixon area is totally trashed. And I can see how my original post may have come across as stronger than I had intended when I said, "why are you so bitter." What I should have said is that to me, some of your posts come across in way that you may not intend. But like I also said, I'm not trying to start anything. Maybe I was taking your posts too seriously.

I might be a little bitter when someone else is getting raked and the snow is piling up while I'm getting white rain or something, and I can be snarky at those times, but I get over it pretty quickly. ecosense
The area is not devastated but trashed is probably a correct assessment. Several main transmission lines are still down, several 100,000 household still without power. Almost the winter version of the damage done by the dreaded derecho. Still have to shovel the roof to see if the rubber was damaged by the tree. Ice is never fun. Power back on. Getting from place to place is still a challenge because of downed trees and power lines. Round of applause for the utility crews still working hard to restore power and open roads. Because of the wood stove in the basement internal temps never got below 60f. Kids did a great job keeping it fed throughout the day while the wife and I were at work. Other neighbors still without power so we'll be sharing our shower facilities with them.
