WVclimo
Conditions overnight were ideal for creating potholes. Rural roads are a mess out here.
winterymix
In Glydon/Reisterstown, we have about 0.30" ice coating on trees. Many trees have broken limbs, I barely found enough clearance to drive out of the neighborhood. Our power was on/off, on/off various times starting around 11 pm last night. Our mainline electric feeders are buried but still, with trees sagging against external lines, there are too many moving parts to the outdoor power circuits until meltage. Mrs.J
As for buried vs. non buried lines. it all depends on what subststion and feeder lines you are on. if power goes down on a feeder into a substation that supplies your buried lines you will most likely loose power. Ian
Two hours? That's nothing KT. You can handle it lol. Welcome to living in the country isn't it fun? You'll get power back soon. This isn't a crippling ice storm good luck. Hopefully.. the numbers are getting high enough they're going to need some backup in the region. H2O
I forget how many lost power in Sandy but this should be biggest since the derecho. Fairly high end numbers for this region. the last few years have not been kind to trees

CAPE
Ours are buried and I've been without power for almost 2hrs now. So it makes no difference. Congrats on having power tho! Correct. It makes little to no difference. Burying power lines is done more for aesthetic purposes in subdivisions etc. Obviously the feeds coming in are not all buried. Burying cables is expensive, and adds a whole other set of problems.

terpsnation
The only thing icy in Arlington when i woke up this morning was my cold, cold heart. And looking at all of these pictures and the talk of power outages - I'm suprisingly okay with that.
