That is beautiful. After this storm I want winter to be over with. I think it was Jan of 96 when we got the blizzard followed by a couple clippers and then a big warmup. I remember it getting to at least 60 that week. It felt good.

yup and some major flooding

Just got this phone message from the Orange County (VA) emergency contact system:

"Is a code red alert message press any key or hold the line to listen. This alert is to notify the Orange County citizens of the potential of severe winter weather beginning in the evening of Wednesday February twelfth. There is a chance for significant snowfall and power outages. Now is the time to prepare for this weather event."

The problem with the "just give the GFS a chance, maybe it's right" argument going on in the disco threads is that the "F" in GFS stands for "forecast."

How is anyone supposed to be able to make a coherent forecast more than 4-6 hours ahead of time with the gibberish this model has put out this winter?

Can we call it the GNS?

I'm not really feeling all that different.  A little spooked, nervous..sure...but I'd be that way even if every last single model showed a hit.  It's build it when you live here.    If the Euro comes in like 0z or even backs off a bit, but still same thermals, it'll be great around here.

Idk, I never care much about the GGEM. The GFS is worrisome, but as long as the Euro holds on track and temps, it would seem the GFS is still figuring it out and will eventually catch up. I would be happy if after 12z we have the Euro, NAM, and Ukie still all solid.

Having the Euro, NAM, Ukie combo is like two pieces of bread with vegemite in the middle

On an aside, it has been a fascinating game of model chicken for three days now, worried the euro finally blinks.

It's really not that hard to get in a mental state where you both enjoy and are excited by a truly big snowstorm and enjoy and are enormously entertained by a truly epic bust (weenie suicides, radar hallucinations, model hugging of the last model showing a storm). I've been like that for over 15 years. You can't lose either way. I'll be interested and excited if Northern Virginia gets 16" of snow and I'll be LMAO if it busts to all rain.  Either way I'll be refreshing the threads every minute.

The only mental state baffling to me are the people whose personal happiness depends on 4" of slush vs. no snow at all.
