Winter '13/'14 Banter/Complaint Thread Part 2

The roads in Toronto are starting to become a mess with potholes. I am pretty excited for the south and east coast regarding this storm. Not to often to see Augusta and parts of SC expecting massive snow and ice.

Oh yeah, it will be interesting to watch that unfold especially in Atlanta after the hysteria with the last storm.

It's amazing that even in a supposedly spread-the-wealth/historic winter, there's still drama on this forum.

And the hilarious part is the drama is stirring between the Chicago/Illinois folks and Detroit/Michigan folks (ones who HAVE done the BEST this season), not the folks such as cyclone77 / BowMeHunter / hawkeye_wx / SSC who HAVEN'T done AS well.

Granted, I suppose part of this can be attributed to the fact that the Ontario and Ohio posters have already spun off their discussions into autonomous threads (maybe the Chicago/Illinois and Detroit/Michigan should do the same?).

But I guess the forum wouldn't be the same without some type of drama.

Stebo and I had our drama a couple weeks ago. Water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

And this coming from a poster who has complained numerous times on here regardless of this historic snowy winter for his area.

For a winter that finishes above average, this has to be the unluckiest one ever.  Two disturbances this week with the heaviest snow just north, missing a clipper on Saturday with the heaviest to the SW, then another miss to the north on Monday.  This after getting missed to the south/east with the heaviest all winter after December. :grinch:

Yup. This winter to me feels like the inverse of 2007-08, where it was a good winter all around, but the historic stuff was across the northern part of the subforum. Of course, Chicago and Detroit riding the borderline get to double dip.

We've double dipped here too. 2007-08 had 45.0" here...and of course this winter. Lucky as hell in the LAF. But better to be lucky than good...

No question, and some years we've been really lucky, so I suppose complaining is futile, but it still hurts as SSC and I can attest to.

In all fairness, you and I both deserve a noteworthy winter, but we say that every season and it never lives up to our optimism. I guess all were left with are complaints, that serve no purpose.

When was the last time we had a bitterly cold winter with below normal snowfall?

Not sure if this is just a general question or whether it's a veiled complaint about this winter, but if it's the latter I can tell you there's virtually a 0% chance this winter ends up below normal in terms of snowfall.

Ah, didn't realize it was that low. 60" = record breaking territory then I'm guessing.

Correct.

Just a random question, but what is your decadal average in relation to the PDO, (cold and warm phases)?

If you dont mind, thanks! :)

No idea. I'll have to do some digging.

Ok snowstorms, here's the average season snowfall for Indianapolis per PDO phase, using this as a guideline: http://jisao.washington.edu/pdo/

1890-1924 cool: 22.9"

1925-1946 warm: 16.3"

1947-1976 cool: 23.3"

1977-1999 warm: 27.4"

2000-2013 cool?: 26.3"

So really, -PDO is better...but the late 70's through late 90's +PDO threw a wrench into that line of thought, for Indy anyways.
