Been a long long time since we've seen something like this...

 

You'd think that storm would reform off the coast somewhere with the strong wedge in place. But no. It just plows right up into the Lakes. After dropping ice, it switches everyone to rain and thunderstorms.

Models look better for some front end ice this morning. Looks like they all end up going over to rain verbatim but still a long time to play out. Would like to see confluence in the NE hold on longer.

Regarding the LR, the indexes still look terrible, but whatever. The 0z and 6z GFS start to shape up out in stupid land and the Euro around day 10 doesn't look awful. I would continue to expect lots of changes, but I hope to see a good pattern work into the short range before too long. Still plenty of winter left. And as expected, the SE ridge looks less potent today.

1040 still showing up is strong enough to get the wedge in ne ga usually....thats a hefty high pressure.  now if we can just get it in the right location lol.  burger - you are right it has been a long time since we have seen something like that
