AvantHiatus
The torch is no longer confined to 384hrs, late Feb looks seasonal or warm. Bring on spring.
infekshus
a thaw doesn't have to be a raging torch. 50+ especially for several days is pretty springlike while i hear what you're saying, this discussion boils down to semantics and the individual's experience being relative to their locaiton...while a 'thaw' and a 'torch' are not defined, a couple of 51 degree days in Jan aren't even +10 departures for highs for many/most people in the DC metro region. don't think the ground at my house has been thawed deeper than about 1.5-2" since december...icy ground below. nj2va
I'm in full on tracking seasonal temperature (50s) mode. I'd like to see 60s showing up for mid-March and beyond.

Bob Chill
Tracking 50s and 60s in spring doesn't do much for me. I love spending time outside during those days but I have a hard time staying up for the 0z nam when they are on tap.

snowfan
It's definitely time to pull the plug on this winter. It was better than the previous two. Time for baseball and golf this was a good post.
snowfan
Spring will be slow until the first big national severe outbreak. Then it's time for hodos and radar scope screen grabs.

Bob Chill
deep, deep model withdrawal on the near horizonNah, I need a break. Enso and various ssta's will keep us going as we sweat our eyeballs out just getting the mail. This summer is a good one to keep an eye on the arctic ice thread. Probably due for a tropical hit of some sort this year too

Jebman
its not so much that we are going to see a major early spring onset, as that we will see a major early summer onset in Washington in other words this year we will make a rapid transition from winter to summer. in south Texas they are already averaging in the 80s for highs and 50s/60s for lows. I gotta go down there in late April ugh ugh ugh axesmiley

The only thing I like about summer is hurricanes, thunderstorms, short skirts, and crabbing. In that order.
nw baltimore wx
Same here. The only thing I like about summer is hurricanes, thunderstorms, short skirts, and crabbing. In that order. My list goes #3, #4, then 2, and 1. Though being on the water and crabbing right after a thunderstorm is good, so 2 and 4 are interchangeable. Ian
Alleyway tree blooms. Terrible pic As noted this morning.. the early cherries are not blooming yet. I kinda would have thought this last warm stretch would do it. This is the first winter I remember not seeing any cherry blooms in Jan or Feb, despite it not being "legit" cold. As long as the seasonal trend of warmth being muted or squashed doesn't hold true for early meteorological spring, I'll be quite happy.
