Looking at the numbers today, Detroit is likely to finish at around the 8th or 9th coldest winter and 2nd snowiest snow-year ever. Easily the most severe winter since 1977-78 (ranked #6 on cold and #12 on snow), and I wasn't alive to experience that one. Getting such a high ranking simultaneously on both cold and snow dimensions is pretty amazing. Finishing out with an arctic bang too - the point forecast for the airport for 2/28's low is -8. That point is 7 degrees below the present record for the date.

Don't rule off the #1 spot...March and April can deliver. Just sayin ;)

Drove around a bit today.... At what point do pit holes become sinkhole? Avoided one that was easily feet deep and more feet wide.

All I'm doing is dodging potholes all day. It's passed the ridiculous point. It's just comical now. Main roads are becoming dirt roads.

We just got a snow shower in the Toledo area that may have pushed us to record seasonal snowfall. We were tied heading into this evening at 73.1 inches

It's now official. Up to 73.5 on the season breaking the record from the 1977-78 winter.

Thats awesome!

After a few days of non-accumulating flurries, a nice squall came through tonight. Didnt last too long, but dropped a fresh 0.4" of fluffy powder which whitened up the old crusty snowpack. Winds howled during it too.

With the 0.4" snow here last night and at DTW....

MBY since 1995

1.) 2013-14: 81.1" and counting

2.) 2004-05: 80.7"

3.) 2007-08: 78.2"

4.) 2010-11: 69.4"

As I have said time and time again, this winter for everything it has entailed (snowfall just one measure of winter) has already blown everything else out of the water.'

Detroit top 5 since 1880

1.) 1880-81: 93.6"

2.) 2013-14: 78.9" and counting

3.) 1925-26: 78.0"

4.) 1981-82: 74.0"

5.) 2007-08: 71.7"

Will update the Detroit records thread later.

Congrats to Toledo, OH...with 0.8" of snow yesterday, they have officially seen their snowiest winter on record!!!! Since I believe 1885

1.) 2013-14: 73.5" and counting

2.) 1977-78: 73.1"

3.) 1981-82: 68.2"

4.) 1895-96: 63.7"

Really starting to think tomorrow night could be one of the coldest nights this winter, especially outside of the city. DTX already has lows around -10 for a lot of areas outside of the city for tomorrow. The winds will relax considerably and we should clear out overnight leading to some optimal radiation to take place.

The record won't just be broken, it will be annihilated. I think it will be broken at 12:00 am.
