Concrete surfaces mostly free of snow around here, but the snowpack itself has held firm..it did soften a lot today and settled.  I pulled way more snow then i thought off my roof...  Hip roofs with no pitch suck..i need a steel roof.

42F max here...  tomorrow about the same... Sat shows 20F Sun shows 18F ..sun both days but that is far below norms.

You would have thought, by the people out, that it was 60F today.

. More snow depth records set at Grand Rapids mi...

The deep snow pack at Grand Rapids has set more records this
month.

The snow depth was 24 inches at Grand Rapids this morning. This
breaks the record for deepest snow cover in the month of February
which was 23 inches set in February 1936 and tied earlier this month.

The 24 inches of snow is tied with January 28 1978 for second place
all time. The greatest snow depth on record at Grand Rapids is 27
inches set on January 27 1978... just after the blizzard.

There have been 14 consecutive days of 20 or more inches of snow on
the ground at Grand Rapids... from February 5th to the 18th. This
breaks the record of nine consecutive days set from February 13th to
the 21st 1936 and from January 14th to the 22nd in 1979.

There have been many daily records for snow depth set or tied this
month:

Date/snow depth... ..Previous record

2/2... .19 inches... ..18 in 2011... 1959... 1918
2/3... .19 inches... ..19 in 2011 tied
2/5... .21 inches... ..20 in 1959
2/6... .21 inches... ..19 in 1959
2/7... .23 inches... ..19 in 1959
2/8... .23 inches... ..15 in 2011... 1979... 1959... 1918
2/9... .23 inches... ..17 in 1936
2/10... 23 inches... ..18 in 1936
2/11... 22 inches... ..17 in 1936
2/11... 22 inches... ..17 in 1936
2/12... 21 inches... ..18 in 1985... 1936... 1905
2/13... 21 inches... ..21 in 1936 tied
2/18... 24 inches... ..22 in 1936

All of the daily measurements for record purposes are at 7 am.

29 is bumping 32.. slanting dews now too lmao.

mmm, nice light winds tomorrow is going to make ice fishing more enjoyable and only need a hoodie on top when it warms up in the afternoon. cold rain, not looking forward to that but uts actually kinna needed to knock some of the deep snow and drifts down for better truck travel on the ice.

At Racine it was.

@ DLL - yeah I rolled my windows down about 2" after work. Saw a lot of other people doing the same.

Today felt more like 55° in the sun.

Those Grand Rapids snow depth records are not as high as I would have thought, given how much lake effect snow they can get.  I guess they are susceptible to the inevitable thaws that can occur at any time during DJF...which keep snow depths from getting out of hand...just like here.

LES has low water content.

I have trailer-ed my snowmobile to locations in the lake belt that had reports of 2 feet of LES and when I got there a few days later, the depth was around 10 inches. Houghton has received around 200 inches, yet the depth has never surpassed 40 inches and there haven't been any melts.

Also, the best LES falls SW of the city. Allegan generally crushes Grand Rapids.

How can beavis lose 6" of snow and bow lose an inch or two with basically similar temps/dewpoints.  Something doesn't add up.

I can vouch for the 6" loss here (unfortunately)...I live very near MidwestChaser, and he reported a high of 48 today.  Dry SW winds just seemed to eat up the snow.  Figure about 5 degrees cooler in MKE, with maybe denser snowpack due to fewer thaws, older snowpack, a bit less UHI than here, and less of a LE/fluffy snowpack compared to me?

I just chalk it up to the fact that snow melt forecasting and processes are much more intricate than you'd think. :)

Ok, there's one potential reason out the window.  Yesterday's snow IMBY was much fluffier than I thought it would be before the event started...about 18:1 ratios.  Maybe yesterday's snow was denser further north?  Plus, of course the sun angle is a bit higher here than MKE - maybe that contributed to 1/2 to 1" of the difference.

I would say 3-4" was lost in Racine today. No way was it only an inch. Milwaukee had more sun today then further south...

Maybe in the shade it only came down an inch.

and it was 35 at milwaukee at noon while 41 already at ORD..

looks like around 3" left of the fresh snow out there where the dog took a dump yesterday around 10pm. top of picture would be south/sw exposure  prob should have left the 1 out of the 1-2" lost and it would be right giver or take a 1/4"

Installation of the new forced air furnace started today.  Tough transition going from a boiler to a forced air system, as there are no existing air ducts for the new system.  Will be nice to have central air though for the summer.  Should be all done by Fri, so after that it can get down to -40 if it wants, even though I'm pretty sick of the arctic cold lol.

Still 36 here, but the puddles that were on the sidewalk earlier have sort of iced up.

Geos can take this image for in his dreams tonight.

I gotta lol at that. Too late in the season for that.

Briefly touching freezing this morning and about to head back up. No more than 3" of snow left of the roof now.

Looks like the 6z run keeps it above 0°; 2m temp, the entire run.
