Geos
There's a possum out front eating a snowball. Lol. I've seen a few of them lately. Possum's are easily spooked. --- 24° for a high today. Didn't even wear a coat outside until it started clouding up.
Geos
lol. Pics? Sioux City just shot way up to 58. Pretty impressive. They have northwest winds gusting to 36 or something. Doesn't look like there's any snow left on the ground there. Will be interesting to watch this map in the next 7 days.
michsnowfreak
Todays low 20s and full sun not only felt comfortable, but it was a gorgeous day for a winter hike. I went to Lower Huron Metropark and I felt like I was hiking up north, as has been the case much of this winter. Its just day after day of perfect winter conditions and always something new to photograph. The first pic is of a school in Wyandotte and its big snow drift, the rest at the park. DAFF
Just got in from a 25 mile ski do trip around the neighbourhood. Show depth in the woods is nearing knee depth and some drifts are insane. |Rode in 8" of fresh icy powder with a base of 2" solid ice. The river is completely frozen over for the first time since we moved here 8 years ago. With such epic snow here I hate for spring to arrive, although there is zero evidence of nature making the switch over yet.
daddylonglegs
Fun stuff As of today, February 15th, Duluth, MN has seen 59 days with a temperature below zero this winter season (December 1st through February 28th) thus far. This ties the record set in the winter season of 1916-1917. Love to have a sled this time of year. I'd just get on and ride up the river... Geos
Cloudy and 17° here. There was a hint of freezing drizzle earlier. Tomorrow should be a near repeat of today.
daddylonglegs
9F and sunshine...>WSW in effect... should see 5 inches, give or take... looks mild after that (not warm)...upper 30Fs. Going to be tough to climb much with all of this snow, but at least we should see the roads melt free of snow quickly. Another shot of cold air waiting to come down on day
Chicago WX
Mood flakes floating about here this morning. If it weren't for the incoming warmth this week for here, we may have had a chance at the coldest February on record. Through yesterday, Feb mean temp at LAF is 12.5º (-16.2º departure). That's pretty incredible for the first half of the month.

That's pretty incredible for the first half of the month. DTW thankfully hasn't been that bad but we are running 0.5 colder than last month,'warm up' aside we could very well run back to back top 10 coldest months ever for Detroit, whichis downright incredible when you think about it. Also we are a lock for top 10 coldest winters on record, at this point we are 5th, I do think we settle somewhere around 7th coldest all time. There's a nice greenhouse there...... Actually, I'm with you. I'm all about snow and associated records, but am sick and tired of the extreme cold. Up to 25° here. I've been losing about a half an inch a day to melting/sublimation. I had 11.5" snowpack on the 10th and am down to 8.5" today, with our highest temperature being 32° on Friday. Lol. I have some salt on my driveway, plus it is a south facing slope (not just flat). Definitely melting off the roof well this afternoon. About 25° right now. 12" of snow pack. BowMeHunter
no need to shovel off a dusting on a south facing driveway in Feb. Still getting off and on flurries sparkling down in the sun. surprised the sun doesn't do them in before hitting the surface.

Geos
I noticed flakes while the sun was out too BowMe. An odd sight. Predicted low is probably too low with all these clouds that have drifted in.
michsnowfreak
I think today is when the winter officially reached the comical stage. Once this mornings 1.2-inch snow passed, the sun came out, and there wasnt a single model indicating there was a chance for any more snow. Then the heavens opened up and it poured feathers during the early evening. A lake band from Huron? Who knows...but nothing was forecast...and we picked up an additional 0.6" of fluff imby and 0.3" at DTW, so daily total is 1.8" imby (74.6" season) and 1.5" DTW (72.9" season). Onto the next one!The Christmas decorations are just about buried now lol.

ukrocks
We have now had snow on the ground for 14 straight days. The longest stretch since 1996. I love it but I'm going to be sad when the rain washes it away tomorrow. What's amazing is that we didn't need a huge snowfall to keep it on the ground for a long while. If you do it will become the winter cancel button..... Lots of ice fog tonight with big fluffy flakes falling while driving under a moon lit star filled night !!!! Its going to be sad when this winter fades away into spring for it has been so memorable.
Stebo
Temp dropping like a stone tonight, down to 2 currently, I think we have an outside chance of adding another below zero reading for the year. Dew point is currently -1 so it will be close, if we can lose another degree or so on the dew point we might make it. Only have another 2-3 hr window before more high clouds move in. Mt Clemens and Ann Arbor are currently -9 and -8 so there are some colder readings across the Metro Detroit area.
Stebo
Hit -1 as of 4:27AM so add another sub zero reading to the list.
