Whitelakeroy
Have to admit I am glad this looks to be the last of the sub-zero weather. Just not ready to be done with the sub-freezing temps.
michsnowfreak
We have a shroud of dense freezing fog this morning coating all the trees in frost. Another beautiful winter morning, just dont want winter to end or even take a hiatus just yet lol. DTW was actually at 1/8 mile visibility in Freezing Fog with a temp of -5F a few hours ago. Interesting.
DAFF
Freezing fog is often a precursor of something big in the winter department. I have a feeling this won't be the last of the sub zero's.....
daddylonglegs
2013-2014 Winter Rankings Curious how this winter's temperature and snowfall frequency ranks against the record books? Taking a look at the average temperature for the meteorological winter so far (Dec 1 - Feb 11), this winter is 7th coldest in La Crosse, Wisconsin and 8th in Rochester, Minnesota. This is the coldest winter since the winter of 1977-78 in La Crosse, WI and 1978-79 in Rochester. From December 1st through February 11th, the temperature has fallen below zero 37 times in La Crosse (7th most through this date) and 41 times in Rochester (6th most through this date). Even more impressive is that the temperature has fallen to -10 or colder on 22 days at La Crosse, WI. This is the 6th most through February 11th and 12th greatest for a winter. In addition, the area has seen frequent snows. Ranking the number of days of measurable snowfall (0.1" or more), this winter so far ranks 3rd in La Crosse. michsnowfreak
The fog has lifted, sky is blue, and trees are caked in white rime unlike anything you see with even an ice storm of wet snowstorm. Its something different every day this winter. GORGEOUS! I put on my boots and ran outside for a quick walk around the neighborhood and some pics, but if I didnt have to work I would have went to the park or a heavily wooded area for these photo ops...a photographers dream lol

A DAILY RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF -15 DEGREES WAS SET AT FORT WAYNE THIS MORNING. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF -14 SET IN 1899.

OSNW3
GFS signaling a torch by the 21st or so? 2m temps near 50? This is a pattern long foreseen by the recurring #Rossby and #ISO. I couldn't find any earlier images (see tweet link) of the warm up coming in late FEB. I suppose a month and a half out is decent enough. Hope it verifies.
