Arnold214
I'm not sure if the X-mas storm is a bust or not..but it seems to have more going against it than it does for it. i was just hopeful we could get enough wrap around for a couple inches on Wednesday even west of ORH. This is one of those yrs where it just doesn't want to snow. We have yrs where all it wants to do is snow..this is completely opposite. In the end I'll still be here. but i am pretty dejected today i think part of it is that we've had some pretty hefty snowfalls in the last several Decembers....especially prior to the 20th. You almost come to expect it at this point. It seemed to become the norm.

Yeah you drive around and aside from about 3 sq miles from my house where there is still some snowcover.though not much...and all you see is brownn..no snowbanks..it's depressing..and then you have to hope a storm on X-mas night actually pans out. We've been hearing for a month Dec would be snowy..but it's been exactly opposite. I'm hopeful we can break into the snow events again soon. HoarfrostHubb
I haven't invsted too much in it..since I've seen a lot of posts saying suppression is more likely than it hitting us. Hopefully it works out hmmmmmm...reverse psychology... I see where you're at. Beats la-la-la-la-losing it with every threat

This is the opposite of the last few winters that ended in February, I try to look at it that way. I hate winter ending early....I much rather have it start late. Living near the coast, I am used to lack luster Decembers. Mike is right, in that we've been spoiled by ridiculous Decembers lately.

I'd love for it to continue thru April..but I'd rather have alot of snow in Dec-Feb so we can enjoy deep snowcover. march snow is great but some of the fun and enjoyment is taken away because March is spring and the snow doesn't last. There;s just a different feeling to a Dec or jan snowstorm than there is in March. I'd take a snowless March if we could go gangbusters Dec-Feb

It's usually too cold for anything outdoors..and sst's are pretty cold. I'd rather have it snow.
Clinch Leatherwood
GFS looks better IMO, its holding back that s/w again and again. Snowing pretty hard here, I need to go put some pants on and check out the snow.
Bryan
Still snowing here lightly. Must have gotten a pretty good clip over night, fell asleep with an inch, and woke up to possibly close to 3", haven't had a chance to go measure yet. Clinch Leatherwood
For as bad as the models have been the GFS has been the worst. Couldnt even get a 12 hour forecast right. GFS looks a lot better for round two. Continues to go towards the NAM.

When I was growing up on Eastern LI, snow in Dec was a rarity...I never expected snow before xmas. The only real exception was t-giving 1989 which was a rare treat. CT Rain
Kevin I can't believe you're throwing in the towel after a storm (wednesday) everyone (except you) thought would not be an issue is turning out not to be an issue. Christmas still looks ok to me. Good pattern.

Dec '95 was the first time where I got to experience a nice snowy December.

CoastalWx
Man the gfs keeps snow lingering over the Cape through 36 hrs.
Clinch Leatherwood
giant changes in the GFS with that feature, I mean it's moved it WNW like 300 miles again since the 0z. So it does have backlash, albeit light but it's a good start.

Clinch Leatherwood
It's much stronger with the vortmax over Lake Michigan at hr 42. When I saw the NAM break stride I was worried we were about to lose that solution entirely. The GFS is running so fast the other way - look at 500mb h42 now vs 0z h54...I mean wow did the NAM school every other model with that s/w. Now the key is we need a small shift SW, 50 miles and we have a good snow event.

ackwaves
Sn. 1/2 mile vis. 31f. Prolly about 2.5-3 inches. Man, if we didn't have mixing issues last night and this am, we would have 5-7" by now!

Clinch Leatherwood
The other thing Scott is now that the GFS is getting this first complex of s/ws right we can probably expect a change in solutions here at 12z on the xmas day. One concern would be as it slowed this feature down that became a miss, but these changes are pretty drastic today. Will measure in a few, light to moderate snow. Trees being weighed down a bit now.
