yesterday there were places in Illinois that hit the mid 50s before the front and fell into the teens to low 20s in 1-2 hours after the front passed... love to watch those kind of temperature swings with a front

I have a friend who lives in Kanas....he said: An hour ago it was 54 degrees and now it's 36 and snowing.

you'll have to keep us updated how quickly your temp drops.

It looks to fall very rapidly, Johnstown had been in the upper 30s through about an hour ago and they're back down to 27. Low teens already into northwestern PA.

It stayed around 25 until literally the last minute here, winds finally mixed down with the frontal passage and drove the temp a bit past 32 briefly with rain and it immediately changed to snow with temp back under 31ºF currently with a howling wind a moderate-heavy snow (quite low visibilities). All this within an hour.

Yea def was not expecting rain, but front has arrived here with a wind driven rain. I'm sure that'll be good on the roads. Can see a little bit of mixing back in with snow so should be really short lived.

i like to watch the temperature swing but rain before a deep freeze is not good at all

I think someone over the weekend was asking about RAP/HRRR being down... this may be why... http://ruc.noaa.gov/pdf/NCEP_PSR_2013_RAP_FINAL_v5.pdf ... an update to RAP is expected early this week and looks pretty significant and interesting... wonder if this will help some of the SREF members from going so extreme sometimes

With what is going on out west, makes me wonder if we even see our projected high of 30 today.

If we do it will be very brief and occur as the front arrives... no wind here right now is not allowing any of the warmer air to mix down to the surface... the lower the max stays the more we will climb in the coldest January rankings lol... Harrisburg currently ranked 16th... State College 15/16th...

Pretty amazing MDT's only at the 16th coldest January. I mean, when's the last time we hit the freezing mark? A week and a half?

Take away that short warm period of January 11-14th and Harrisburg would be sitting at 8th coldest with average temp of 22 instead of 16th with 24.3 and be within 2 degrees of 1977 and 1994!! The one thing we are missing that some of these top years have are the well below 0 lows.

It feels like a week and a half but the last time MDT was above 32 was 2am last Tuesday

I bet delays. Winds won't be nearly as strong and temps will moderate to the teens both days.

My high for tomorrow is 6, so they'll cancel here.

I was talking LSV and mid Susquehanna. We had a low of -2 and wind chill of -19 last week and some schools didnt even delay.

I agree about delay down here and agree with Jamie with cancelations north. I was told some schools down here have a policy if its 5 or below they cancel. I never heard that before.

looking at some precip on Friday, maybe another 1"?
