What is your threshold for a good snowstorm?

If I have to use 4wd on a main road, that's what I call a good snowstorm.

Tough to say that yesterday's wasn't a "good" snowstorm.

I voted 4 to 8, but a good storm for me has different meanings based on the circumstances.  For example, how cold is the storm, whether it's disruptive or not, will it stick around for awhile, etc.

 

I think a well-timed 2" event can end up being a good storm around here.

Yesterday during the storm, I didn't think it was that impressive in the Capitol Hill area. Much to my surprise today, I see that a trained spotter around the corner from me verified 6". Based purely on snow depth, I would consider that a good storm for my area.

4-8 is good 

1-3 is interesting but depressing because of the back edge

8-12 in the daytime (so I can see it) with 10-20mph winds from the NE. I got around 5-6 inches yesterday but with the size of the flakes, it didn't impress me until late afternoon when it really started coming down.

Yesterday made me really love very cold snow. Give me 2" of fluff over 4" of glop any day

For me, if it's warm/wet snow then it needs to be like 6 inches or more to be interesting.  If it's having a hard time sticking on the roads it's just not as nice.  If it's cold like yesterday even 1-2 inches I consider good.

Anything 6 or over is a real snow storm IMO.

Obviously the more snow the better, but 2-4" is good enough to feel like a legit event (grass mostly or entirely covered, need to shovel, etc.) and that's mostly what we've always gotten around here from events in a typical winter. If you need 12" or more from events to be happy in this region you're going to be in for a lot of disappointment.

My threshold is somewhere around 8 inches.
