MN Transplant
Ok, final stats. 5.8" of snow 0.42" in the gauge, 0.44" from the snow core resulting a storm ratio of ~13:1 Early ratios were in the 12:1 range, with the later fluff in the 16 to 19:1 range. Note that even with the nearly perfect conditions we didn't get to 20:1, so take that into future account when this comes up.
WxUSAF
Looks like almost the entire LWX CWA verified warning criteria, even DC based on those spotter reports! Southern VA counties in the CWA missed it looks like. Charles County MD also didn't verify apparently.

snowfan
This worked out perfectly.....4-8 DC to BWI and 6-10 north/west. My final number is probably around 7. The last few hours of snow was around 15-17:1, which isn't too common around here. My temp was 5.6 when I woke up at 6:30 and has since dropped off to 4.5. PrinceFrederickWx
The report closest to me would be Huntington at 3.8 inches, which seems way too low. Just eyeballing it I'd say we have more than that- maybe 5 inches or so. But its hard to tell with all the blowing around. Just like Jan. 2-3, its unbearable outside this morning- wanted to build a snowman with my son but I can't stand the cold. It needs to be like 30 degrees the next day so I can stand being outside lol
gymengineer
So it seems to me that when there's model unanimity of surpassing a threshold (say >4") *and* we're not on the southern edge, we get there by the end with the last hurrah. There are lots of examples of splotchy, uneven, underwhelming, "bust"-call filled beginnings that perform at the end and get most of us to at least the low side of the forecast. Just from the years since I've been on the weatherboards: 2/25/05, 2/28/05, 12/05/05, 2/11/06 (forecasters dropped the snow totals late evening), 3/01/09 (remember CWG's revision down only to have to revise back up last minute during the morning?), 2/9/10, and now this one... 3/6/13 doesn't break this IMO because the Euro verbatim with its surface temps would have resulted in non-accumulating snow too. EastCoast NPZ
6 inches of fresh powder and 0F temps. Doesn't get better than that here. Beautiful morning. Snow has that remarkable sparkle layer on top. Low angle morning sun makes it shine like thousands of diamonds in the snow. I wonder what type of flake causes this. These seem to fall at the end of storms. Anyone know?
CAPE
Skeptical of that 5.3 measurement at BWI. Lots of reports of 6-7" within a few miles of the airport. needbiggerboat
DCA - 3.8" BWI - 5.3" IAD - 8.5" (What?) this has no support Not surprised. This storm was somewhat odd in that it did feature many pockets of moderate to even heavy snow with adjacent lulls with fine pixie dust snow. Not surprised to see the variability in reports over short distances esp south of Northern MD, DE into Philly, where there was more persistent banding in those locations. I didn't measure, but I'd estimate I had about 5 inches, which fits in with the 4 to 6 inches reported in Centreville. I suppose IAD could have had more, but 8.5 sounds high, especially on .2 qpf.
