I heard this year's coffee is amazing. Had my first coffee ('12) at a bottle share last night and it was great. Hopefully you got your hands on some Barleywine too.

The coffee is fabulous. Managed to get 3 4-pks of each and have been rationing it since. It's gonna be a long time 'til November 2014.

every model run since yesterday has trended wetter...when does that trend stop?

We've seen this before (albeit not successfully at DCA because of a myriad of issues).  I fully expect 0z to tap the breaks, but settle somewhere slightly higher than what we saw at 12z today.

Presidents Day 1979?

Damn iPhone and fat fingers!

Was that also initially a clipper? wow! From what I found, the February 2003 storm mentioned earlier seemed to have tapped Gulf moisture, which doesn't seem like the case this go around.

Back on topic--I can't wait for the OBS thread. The happiest ALL of us have been in some time. Are we going to have flakes so big that they have their own moons? Think we can pull a heavy snow warning? Just dreaming I guess...

That's what a winter storm warning is now. That doesn't exist.

I don't think 79 was a clipper but it did bomb in a way this one is forecasted to do. It's also different in that it came at the end of a really cold period and then it warmed up after. Opposite of this.

Found this nice Monthly Weather Review from the early 80's with a quick Google search on the 1979 storm for those interested: http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/pdf/10.1175/1520-0493%281981%29109%3C1542%3ATPDSOF%3E2.0.CO%3B2

Jan 2011 was a weird storm, even for the big numbers in the area, my memory is I had a few inches in the morning, then a 4-5 hour break, and then about a 3-hour burst of crazy heavy wet snow in the late afternoon. It combined for about 11 inches, but was really only a show for the late afternoon part. And such a heavy wet snow.

Close in burbs will probably beat Jan 2011.

Looks like no one inside the beltway reported more than 5"

I'd have to look back for the thread probably for my total.. I only have them on hand for 09/10.. but I got more than 5". Not a lot more, and it was melting even at peak up in the hills.

Not sure what is going on with him.... he did not use to be like that if memory serves me correctly.

maybe he meant raw QPF .3-.6?  LOL,

WBAL has always been conservative- especially Tony Pann. More often than not, they end up correct too.

Bob Turkey on 13 went 3-6" as well. I think 3" is nuts unless all guidance terribly busts.
