ThePhotoGuy
http://www.uscg.mil/d5/ICE_REPORT/ I have a stange fetish for the bay freezing over. Has to do with childhood memories I guess. Thank you!
WxUSAF
MODIS imagery from a week ago already shows some ice on the northern Chessy. I bet it's even more clear today. http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/imagery/single.cgi?image=UnitedStates.A2014022.1810.250m.jpg

Ian
As of this morning KOKV has recorded 12 single-digit lows this month alone. Tonight may make #13. Pretty remarkable. Dulles is up to 10 now in Jan which is the most in Jan since 1988. Will finish top 2 or 3 for Jan there. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2014/01/28/january-2014-the-coldest-in-decades-in-d-c-by-many-counts/

Bob Chill
Sweet sat pics. You can clearly see the ice sheet approaching the bay bridge. Against all odds...the MA can do old school winter every couple of decades
Scuddz
Have to wait for the next MODIS overpass, this one missed east, but expect everything north of the bay bridge to be >80% covered today.

Bob Chill
Wow, that is a lot of ice on the bay. Hopefully someone can check stats and see the last time there was more coverage. I'm too lazy. Looks like Saturday will be the peak for ice season before it starts taking some hits. Even if we go back to the freezer later in Feb I doubt it will recover much. Northern rivers may be ice covered through most of the month if advertised cold in the lr verifies.

Bob Chill
Thanks Scuddz I figured 03 was a good one. I'm surprised @ 04. I don't remember that year that well I guess. Maybe because it wasn't snowy like 03. We might beat 05 by saturday morning. Next 2 nights should add a bunch below the bridge and eastern bay. Kay
Thanks for all of those, Scuddz. Upper Bay looks pretty locked down. I'm curious what it looks like in Havre de Grace, hope I can get up there soon.
Symblized
This last shot of cold air finally froze the potomac all the way down to Mt Vernon Perhaps, but that warm day really did a number to the formerly almost frozen Baltimore Inner Harbor, and these last two cold days have not led to a recovery. Rjay
A couple other stations nearby are below 0. And Salsbury is at 0. But other coastal locations in the area are between 4-25. Idk. Hopefully someone can confirm that temp. If it really is -6 it ties the all time record
