Fozz
Saw this on reddit today, number of inches of snow typically necessary to cancel school. looks about right for MD
PhineasC
I can't believe local schools were closed today for a dusting. This is getting ridiculous now. Is a dusting the new standard?
gymengineer
looks about right for MD Yeah it does-- there's no 2" interval, so 1-3" as the range looks about right for school closures in MD and NoVA. The ones up north don't look accurate anymore. Southern NY, CT, and MA school districts seem to have gotten more liberal in closing schools lately. I'm pretty sure a 6-8" storm, as long as it happened in a short amount of time, would close schools there nowadays.
snowfan
Based on this year's criteria, if Feb 09/10 were to occur again, schools would shut down for the rest of the month. God forbid they open up when Billy Bob missed a spot while shoveling the sidewalk 2.9 miles from school.

gymengineer
And meanwhile, Minneapolis has a Winter Storm Warning for 'only' 4-6" of snow based on rush hour impact, coming after multiple school closures for the cold.....

MN Transplant
Saw this on reddit today, number of inches of snow typically necessary to cancel school. No way up north. Maybe decades ago, but I would shift the categories up one at least. I could see 6" closing schools in MN depending on time of day. People are more cautious now, and many areas have a more dense population.
Bodhi Cove
Yay to starting my morning with a MRIDidn't you mention spraining your ankle or was it your wrist, a few days ago ?Or did you slip on the ice this morning?
mappy
My wrist is fine, but I'm afraid I tore something in my shoulder (also from working out). I was ignoring it mostly but the pain is pretty bad so I finally sucked it up and had it looked at. Waiting to hear the results of the MRI but I've already got an appointment with an orthopedic next week. Yay.

snowfan
Schools should continue to split the year in half, but shift the breaks to make them more equal. The year round school schedule that is used in some parts of the country (San Diego, for example) appears to work fine. Schools start the first week in September. Winter break is a few days before Christmas Eve. Schools start up again at the end of January. Summer break starts the 3rd week of July.

Sucks, it'd hurt just swinging my arms walking/running and such.

Yeah, I can't pick up the kiddo with my left arm, or hell even push myself out of bed. Anyways, I'll be in Columbia Tuesday, going to UMD medical center

See if a couple of cortisone shots over the next few months will give it a chance to heal. And if doing s specific motion causes a clicking, avoid that movement at all costs for a few weeks. Hang in there hon!
