Sorry for loss Kay.  You're now the third who has spent a snow day grieving this season (that I know of.)

Our first big snow on Dec. 8th was my day to stare out at the falling snow, cry, and yes, find a surprising number laughs in the banter and storm threads. It's nice how complete strangers can ease the pain, many without even realizing they're doing so.

Hang in there, and once again, my condolences on the loss of your unconditionally loving companion.

(((hugs)))

Thank you so much, MiddleRvr for your kind post. I'm very sorry for your loss as well. I totally agree with you and Clueless, this place really helped. And I hope we will have happier snow days soon :-)

As requested, ice pics for Bob Chill. Quick ones, I hardly had any time and couldn't try to measure...more ice fun over the weekend.

That's awesome, Kay. Thanks for the pics! It looks like it would be safe walkable near the shore after the cold next week. 3" and it's totally safe. Not saying you should do it but just in case....

When we played illegal pond hockey growing up we would heave the biggest rock we could find out on the ice and guesstimate based on the cracks and if water seeped. If it looked sketchy there was always a dumb kid willing to go first.

No prob! Need to take some more. I'm bummed that I didn't get a good one of the sun reflecting off - shiny!

I'm so walking out there if/when I can. I'm not much of a skater tho :-( Will have to try the rock test if I can find a big one...lol to the dumb kid.

Nice thing about your area is that it's shallow and gradual from the shore. Unless you go when it's way too thin and shouldn't go, ice is very easy to understand. Take a couple slow steps. Then a few more. Then a few more. Every safe step forward is a safe step back. Once thicknesses get in the safer range there is no way you'll just "break through in a flash". Ice will tell you well in advance before going too far. It's pretty fun if you have the guts. And if it's only 2-3 feet deep the worst case is wet pants.

You're exactly right, it is shallow waaaay, way out and gradual, with a channel in the middle. Did you ever boat/fish up here? I have walked out there a ways once before, while a friend had a wild skate-around. Been a while..refreshing myself with the Bob Chill safety method.

I was just looking at our Wind Chill Advisory. Is there a Bob Chill Advisory? (Has this joke already been beat to death?)

We've got a fairly new heat pump, new windows and new sliding doors on the back of the house.  Our BGE energy updates show us using way less energy than similar sized houses.  But the heat pump just can barely stay up with it.  Heat just basically hasn't turned off in a couple days.  If we try to bump up the temp, aux heat kicks on, so we turn the heat back down.  We normally set the heat at 69 but it's down to 65 now.  Need to get the fireplace cranking.

It's better that the heat pump runs non stop than having the aux heat turning on. While the heat pump is using electricity to run, it's not using nearly the same amount the aux heat would. Ours is a week old and has been doing the same and the HVAC guys told us that it's ok, that's what it's suppose to do.

My heating guy told me that most people don't realize (me included until he told me) the aux heat comes on under 40 or 50 (can't remember) but b/c there are 3 rows of heating elements, people just think they come on when the air gets real hot (that's when all 3 kick in.) Hence, I don't bother worrying about it any more. It'll be another killer bill this month. Last month was the highest one we ever received and I've been in this house almost 25 yrs. But I bought it new and while under construction, I sorta knew the builder and was friends with the agent and asked if I could go in during construction and insulate hot water pipes and a/c ducts and did, so that has helped as neighbors with a little smaller models have historically had higher electric bills.

A friend of mine works for BGE (or whatever you want to call it) and she told me last night that the plant at Curtis Bay alone made 17 million dollars in two days! That doesn't include the other two plants she said.

Kay, I want to echo what others have said, losing a pet is tough. We still have pictures of our cat on the refrigerator. I doubt they'll ever come down. Sorry to hear about your loss.

I have the ashes of our last dog in the family room in a lovely box. Might as well be with us. He was grand., truly. It is nice to know how folks truly love their pets.

So sorry to hear this Kay. Pets are family no matter what. My wife has her parents cat when they died within a year of each other when she was in college. It was the last thing she had to remember them outside of photos. she was a nasty cat but we loved her and she lived to be 18 yrs old. We also have my wifes first dog ashes as well in a nice box with her name on it.

Hang in there. They never really ever leave you.

Thank you for the messages Wes, Dave and others...I hope I have not made it too sad here in the old banter thread..I really appreciate it. They do become such a part of you.

Dave I've admired your dogs in pics, they are really gorgeous. I had a husky friend once - friends' dog not mine but we spent a lot of time together and were solid buddies, he would always sleep with me when I slept over there. Fabulous dog...with a love of snow and cold..and an urge to roam you had to watch out for.

Nice sunrise this morning. I was sure someone caught them here and would post. . Thanks.

Warm up was talked about for awhile. We have had a real winter. If we go back to warm it is just fine. Maybe we have a chance late Feb.

Yeah, it certainly won't be the end of winter. I was actually thinking it felt a little balmy this a.m .with temps in the 20's...lol
