Ian
Mine is 4 and has never had a problem in the snow before, but yesterday he did the whole limp thing and plopped down twice on a walk. I got booties but the small disposable ones were all sold out of course. The ones I got are like socks with straps. First major sign I'm another dumb pet owner. I got two on and he acted like he couldn't move. I guess he'll have to learn to deal with one or the other.

NorthArlington101
My take is Arlington and Alexandria will two hour delay, word has spread over "refreezing" and I've heard the term "refreezing advisory" at least three times today. lmao at loudoun. so wimpy. KAOS
Enjoy them for the rest of the week... school closed until Monday... just confirmed http://www.loudoun.k12.va.us/site/default.aspx?PageType=3&DomainID=1&ModuleInstanceID=7221&ViewID=047E6BE3-6D87-4130-8424-D8E4E9ED6C2A&RenderLoc=0&FlexDataID=174868&PageID=1 That's insane. Falls Church has already announced 2 hr delay. Whats fascinating to me so far is the MD schools are all 2 hr delay. snowfan
When I was in grade school.....graduated HS in '98, the only time I can remember getting an extensive amount of time off was for the '96 Blizzard and that was in southern York Co. PA where we had 3 feet of snow and massive drifts. We were off the entire week and had delays the following week. The area I was in was just as rural as Loudon Co. There's no reason at all for any district to shut down for 4 days because of a 6-10" storm. Two days max followed by a delay.
WxUSAF
I pray for all those poor VA kids who might have to walk over a couple spots of frozen slush to get to school.
clueless
That is just loltastic, what the hell is wrong with our area. Like my hood is a nice shaking rink. Buses would need chains and at least an hour delay to get the kids to school. We have already have had two incidents with the school bus sliding off into a ditch with temps much higher. Sidewalks around here are pretty icy. Looks like Fairfax is going to be one of the last school districts in N VA to announce... needbiggerboat
Pretty good argument for a year-round school calendar. Break up quarters with 2-3 week vacations, with a longer holiday season break and summer vacay. Some of the snow days would invariably fall on the planned breaks. Start the days later all around to help cut down on the 2 hour delays. And add mandatory classes to teach kids how to toughen up, and to not be so self-centric.
