Bob Chill
If there is no decent model snow on the gfs I'm going to be depressed. A decent vort pass with no surface reflection may work but I'm undecided. We'll see shortly
Ian
I tend to agree that OPM closes too frequently. Makes us look like pansies. They did the right thing here I think.. it's just seen in a different light after the recent "busts". I know my org for one is studying how to shift off using them as a guide as I'm sure others in DC are. Of course, had either of those done what was expected we'd just be talking about how the last 10 mo have been awesome for snow etc.

It would probably better for all of us (me especially) if you pull me out of the madness. I need a personal mod for the 12z gfs.

Ian
Today would have been an epic traffic disaster if the feds were up. It is a defacto shutdown of the entire city though. It was busy today because the pro lifers are in town but otherwise it would have been pretty dead most places I saw.

Bob Chill
What router do you use? Tell it to ban you from looking at weather sites during certain hours (like model run times). If it was only that simple. Even with a blocked router and If 4g failed on my phone I would walk the dog and find an unsecured wireless connection...I'm a very afflicted man. attml
Here are a couple of cool videos from today. I used the stop-action feature on my GoPro Hero 3 Silver to capture approximately the first 5 hours in the storm today in about 25 seconds. Footage taken from my deck near Annapolis near the Severn River. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txaWzvN0bS8 Here is a GoPro video of me and my daughter and her boyfriend sledding on our driveway this evening. We have one of the best sled hills in the county! . I used my GoPro Hero 3 Silver with the head mount. The video is in real time and was not altered or sped up!! You can really get moving on the really powdery stuff!! We have about 6.75 inches as of right now! Mark

feloniousq
I was looking at the Boston obs to see if co-workers in Boston would be at work tomorrow. There is an ob from Tolland County, CT that is twice the amount of anyone around them. Wonder who that might be.

nw baltimore wx
Board feels like an empty house after a huge party. Absolutely stellar outside, and what a great evening. A brisk walk around town, ended up at a local bar for some dinner and drinks, then back here in front of the fire and turned the back lights on to watch the snow taper to dust. More drinks, great conversation, and music from Beethoven to REM to Ultravox, then walked a staggering buddy home. Came home, disregarded the cold fingers and tackled the walk and driveway. And all the while I kept thinking that the best thing about a storm like this is walking out of your front door and feeling like your hundreds of miles away from home. I love where I live but every once in awhile it's nice to take a trip without ever leaving the hood.
KAOS
That sounds great!!!... I had enjoyable evening in the snow as well. Shoveling the freshly fallen powder was terrific. Also the silence that snow can create is almost deafening.... kinda cool. Fireplace kickin and enjoying some beverages after a nice stroll in the snow is hard to beat. I'm ready... Bob Chill
There's a ton of data to support boom or bust lately. DCA isn't representative of the area as a whole. The other airports are doing pretty well for Jan 22nd. Rockin Feb? Millers to the f'n A's? Jan 30th HECS? I'm in.

Bob Chill
30" on the season IMBY or bust. I see potential for 10"+ for most of us over the next 10 days. If the mon-tues system doesn't work out we just need the late week HECS to go bananas. Sounds reasonable.
