PhineasC
SNO is a horrible poster and a liar. He also said that these clippers were all "lame" and wouldn't produce anything. Just ban him already; he adds nothing.

Snow Threat
I saw some questions regarding good radar sites. I've used this one that shows a lot of different radar locations. Hope this helps. Hope everyone enjoys the snow!!! Might help if I include a link . http://www.funtimevaaeronuts.org/weather/weather3.htm and sorry about the underlined text. I'm new. Don Cherry's Jacket
The obs thread is terrible right now. Too many VA/DC folks freaking out. Yup. I think that's the natural result of closing schools and governments before it starts snowing. It makes people prone to think bust. I personally think they ought to try more liberal leave with early release for both work and schools, but I think commutageddon has spooked the decision makers. Liberal leave is one of the dumbest ideas out there. If your boss doesn't let you take leave unless you give some sort of extended notice, then your boss sucks and you need to find a new job. Your advice was smart....don't look at radar. Of course people would be nervous when they see reports of places in northern Maryland and western Virginia of 2-3"+. It's hard not to be, especially after how poorly the immediate DC area has fared relative to everywhere else recently.

And rightly so, as far as I'm concerned! That was an unmitigated disaster of a commute, pushing everyone out onto the roads right when the heavy snow started. Today, the heaviest snow is expected during the afternoon into the evening...if they did an early release, it could well be a similar disaster. And the temperatures are significantly colder than Commutageddon was. Same for school closings, I don't blame them, it would be a nightmare getting buses out on the roads in significant snow like that. Liberal leave isn't bad, but if you don't have the leave time that could be a problem. I know the Feds in a lot of departments do allow optional telework, which helps. I was working north of Boston for their own version of the 1/11 storm, and it was absolutely ridiculous. They let everyone leave at around 1:00, and within 30 minutes the area had ground to a standstill. The telework option is a great one. Maybe my take is biased because I can and do telework when the situation calls for it, but the government, writ large, should be able to provide their employees with the means to telework in these situations (unless you're working classified or something). I was thinking some of those reports should give some people comfort as the radar trends would suggest similar snowfall rates are incoming. But I know it is tough to hear about heavy/mod snow while waiting for the first flakes.

I was thinking some of those reports should give some people comfort as the radar trends would suggest similar snowfall rates are incoming. But I know it is tough to hear about heavy/mod snow while waiting for the first flakes. Cool. It's all relative. The folks farther west and north often start sooner in events like these, so the folks to the east have to be patient while people with above-normal snowfall to date are already reporting more snow than the easterners have seen in one event all season. It's difficult to be patient in those situations. Of course, I don't condone freaking out and cluttering the wrong threads with it, but "vocalizing" concerns is cathartic.
