Some people in the discussion forum are mentioning January 2011. I think I'll do better with this one. I got maybe 6" out of "Comuttageaddon" (spelling wrong, but a silly name anyway). But a wild storm nonetheless, for reasons somewhat peripheral to the raw accumulation:(which, at 6", certainly wasn't that impressive -- especially when compared to NYC's 20".)

The overpowering smell of gasoline exhaust from all the cars idling that were stuck on Wisconsin Ave. (as well as neighborhood and side streets leading onto it); I'd never seen traffic so locked up. It smelled like 120 truck stops.

The WTOP TV tower took two lightning hits, the first one of which I was walking right by Channel 5 studios (on 42nd street) with my daughter. She went nuts (understandably) and I had to artificially inflate my laughter to try to calm her down, even though I was a bit unsettled myself. That tower gets struck several times each year (depending on the number of T-storms we get) but I'd never been that close to it when it happened.

That night, walking around, hearing all the branches cracking from the wet heavy snow. I thought a lot of the weaker ones had been brought down the past winter (and I believe that summer may have had a couple of severe t-storm events), but there seemed to be as much, if not more, tree damage from Jan 2011 (at least in MNOTW) than from the dynamic duo storms of Feb 2010.

For me, this event will likely kick Jan 11's ass. It was muddy and wet. Paste jobs and near freezing temps don't do it for me. I hate a layer of slush and mud on the bottom. I want smoke blowing through the air and off rooftops and cars. I want concrete ground and dry sidewalks after I shovel. Drifts are money too

I'm gonna switch things up a bit and bring a home repair question in.....

On the unfinished side of my basement, I've got a few warped studs. I'd like to fix/replace them and I'm a diy'er, so what's the best/most safe way to do this without affecting the integrity of the wall?

Problem with fluffy drifty **** is you have bare patches like 12 hours after it's done.  But Jan 2011 was a tick too warm to be great so I agree with you there.

Oh I agree; as a storm, Jan 11 was an ugly duckling. It just had some interesting side effects at least for me personally. If we hadn't had the uberwinter before, the fact that areas further up 95 got 2-3x as much snow from that would have not only stuck in my craw, but infected it and forced its amputation.

My yard is perfectly placed at the bottom of a bowl and uphill both ways out. I am immune to drifty bare spots so I couldnt give a rat's ass about any topographically challenged yard even 500 feet away.
