usedtobe
Does this mean that none of the four 12 inch plus storms in less then 12 months (3/60, 12/60,1/61 and 2/61) in central NJ where I grew up were at least 12 inches in DC? I just find that surprising! I think most of those were in the 8-11 inch range. Good snows but not over a foot.
usedtobe
my first all nighter I didn't believe it would ever snow again after the horrendous winter of 72/73 it would have been fun experiencing that winter with the likes of JI lol I got 10 in dec of 1973 in Annandale. gymengineer
I got 10 in dec of 1973 in Annandale. It's pretty cool you got 16" in 3/58--- what an amazing gradient in that storm. 5" DCA, 12-16" in the close-in suburbs, and 20+" in the next tier of NW suburbs. needbiggerboat
Are you sure about the Feb 9/10 storm? That was an extremely difficult one to measure, and according to the PNS report from late on the 10th, nobody in Fairfax Co. recorded over a foot of snow. I only had around 9.5" and the gradient basically went from NE to SW. ..FAIRFAX COUNTY... Scarlet Pimpernel
I moved to the DC area in July 2001 (just in time for that awful 2001-02 winter!)... Feb. 15-17, 2003: ~18" or so...Capitol Hill neighborhood Dec. 18-19, 2009: 20.0"...Silver Spring, MD Feb. 5-6, 2010: 23.5"...Silver Spring, MD Feb. 9-10, 2010: 12.0...Silver Spring, MD (difficult to measure, I think it was probably a bit more but most nearby areas reported 12-14" so I think my measurement is decent). Close calls (sort of): Feb. 11-12, 2006 I got ~8-10" in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Maybe not exactly a "close call" given the amount. I know others in the area farther out got closer to a foot or more, but the immediate metro area I'm not sure anyone did.
